Calderwood Community Hall has unexpectedly become available again, and the 6th East Kilbride Scout Group is launching a brand-new bid to secure it via a Community Asset Transfer.

Our goal isn't just to secure a permanent home for our Scouts, but also to protect this vital space for everyone. If our bid is successful, the hall will remain fully available for public hire, community groups, and local events. We want to keep it at the very heart of the community!

To win this bid and make this vision a reality, we need to prove to the council that the entire Calderwood and East Kilbride community is behind us.

We are bursting with pride today at the 6th East Kilbride Scout Group! Our very own Group Lead Volunteer, John Anderson, has been officially recognised with the prestigious Award for Merit.

This award is a massive achievement, but for those of us who know John, it’s a well-deserved recognition of a lifetime dedicated to Scouting. John’s journey with the 6th EK is truly one for the history books:

The Original Beaver: John’s story started right at the beginning. When our group was chosen as a pilot for the Beaver section, John was the very first registered Beaver Scout!

Life-Long Member: He has been an active member of the group since the age of 6.
Early Dedication: Before even turning 18, John spent two years as a Venture Scout helping out with the Cub section.

30+ Years of Service: Since then, he has clocked up over 30 years as a dedicated adult volunteer, guiding hundreds of young people through their own Scouting journeys.

John, your commitment, leadership, and passion for Scouting have shaped the 6th EK into the community it is today. Thank you for everything you do for our youth and our volunteers!

Yesterday Holly and Lucas went to Loaves & Fishes Foodbank and dropped off all these wonderful donations they have collected from the community through amazon wishlists for toys and food. Working to do some charity work in their local area helping to support families and making sure no family goes without this Christmas.

The wishlists are still open and below if wish to purchase and we will be collecting from a few people also this week to drop off on Friday to Loaves and Fishes to make sure they are all there in time so they can all be distributed to families before the big day.

The 6th EK Scout group is facing a challenge: we have a waiting list of over 80 young people eager to join the fun, but we simply cannot take them on until we have more adult volunteers.

If you have a few hours a week spare and want to make a difference, we need your help! No previous Scouting experience is necessary - just enthusiasm.
