https://paypal.me/NASSLNewtonAycliffe?country.x=GB&locale.x=en_GB The National Animal Sanctuaries Support League reg charity no. 1024884 was established in 1993 by Ray Mackinlay and Pauline Wilson as founder trustees they worked together until the sad passing of Mr Mackinlay in 2019. NASSL is committed to the welfare of all animals and operates a non destruction policy as well as a low cost neutering policy available to pet owners on low income. Our 'Alternative Project' started in 2003 offers a temporary safe haven for family pets stepping in in an emergency in cases such as families fleeing domestic abuse where they are unable to take their pet with them or homelessness or a stay in hospital where there is no one to care for the animal. The family pet(s) are then returned once the situation has been resolved. Through our pay pal account found on our page or web site nassl.co.uk

Legacies

NASSL receives no government funding, we rely on the generosity of our supporters, the kindness of the general public and ourselves. As an organisation we have always been active in fundraising, never resting on our laurels. The external support we receive is the icing on the cake and we are more than grateful for that support, indeed it pushes us to be more effective in our work with unwanted and abandoned animals.

Percy and Teddy doing a bit of bonding.

It is so lovely to see animals form bonds with each other, these two were introduced a few weeks ago and it did not take long for them to become friends.

The moment that Pauline’s name was called as the Winner of the Animal Award at the BBC Make a Difference Awards 2026 🏆

This video is a short snippet of all of the incredible work that is done at our beautiful shelter and Pauline’s speech on where it all began was nothing short of incredible, as is she.

The hard work, dedication and commitment put into both the little animals that need us at the shelter as well as their owners who are facing hard times is all worth it, every single time.

Congratulations NASSL. Congratulations Pauline and the NASSL team 🥇

And, thank you to each and every person that has supported our shelter past and present, it’s all possible thanks to your kindness.

BBC Make a Difference Awards 2026 WINNER 🏆

This weekend, our beautiful, incredible Trustee, Pauline, took home the Animal Award and won the category 🥇

Honestly, no one deserves this more than her. Pauline has dedicated her life to not only the animals, but to the homeless, those undergoing hospital treatment, those needing mental health treatment and those fleeing domestic abuse. As the judge of this category beautifully put, there is no limits to the scope of care Pauline, and Lee, have provided to the little animals in need, as well as their owners.

We are beyond proud of Pauline and Lee. They are incredible, amazing individuals and this award reflect the tireless time, hard work and effort they put into the shelter every day.

Pauline, it is an honour to know you and an absolute pleasure to have been there to watch you win this award. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of The National Animal Sanctuaries Support League.

You are phenomenal and deserve every single bit of recognition for your devotion to so many fur babies 🐶
