mitted to the welfare of all animals and operates a non destruction policy as well as a low cost neutering policy available to pet owners on low income. Our 'Alternative Project' started in 2003 offers a temporary safe haven for family pets stepping in in an emergency in cases such as families fleeing domestic abuse where they are unable to take their pet with them or homelessness or a stay in hospital where there is no one to care for the animal. The family pet(s) are then returned once the situation has been resolved. Through our pay pal account found on our page or web site nassl.co.uk

Legacies

NASSL receives no government funding, we rely on the generosity of our supporters, the kindness of the general public and ourselves. As an organisation we have always been active in fundraising, never resting on our laurels. The external support we receive is the icing on the cake and we are more than grateful for that support, indeed it pushes us to be more effective in our work with unwanted and abandoned animals.

This weekend, _alexjohnsonx took on the stage to raise awareness for NASSL and, for the second year running, placed 1st runner up Miss Great Britain Newcastle as well as winning Miss Charity 2026 and Miss Photogenic 2026 👑

Alex got the chance to speak on stage to a room full of people about the work we do here at NASSL to spread the advocacy and bring awareness to the little animals we help as well as their owners.

Alex uses her platform and pageants to be able to shout about NASSL and bring money into our shelter so that we can continue the work we do to help the animals in our care 🤍

Well done Alex, and congratulations!🥂

We had a visit today from, Deanne, Tesco Community Champion in Bishop Auckland, but she did'ent come empty handed. Deanne brought a boot full of cat food and stuff to sell on our fundraising stalls.

Of course she could not resist having a cuddle with the new arrivals! and spent quite a bit of time with them.

We love Deanne's visits, she and Tesco are so supportive of NASSL and we are so thankful to them.

A huge and most grateful thankyou to SoSad for their donation to our work.

SosaD was created by a dedicated team of dog and cat lovers getting together in 2008 to form a registered charity. Based in County Durham they have gone on to help thousands of animals from being put to sleep and find their forever home.

Thank you to trustees and volunteers, the donation will make a big difference to us.

Launching Mini’s Place!!🤍

We’ve officially cleared out the area that will be designated to Mini’s Place, meaning the land is ready to be turned into something beautiful for our pregnant animals and their newborns, all in honour of little Mini and her babies 💗

We’re looking to begin the renovation for the mother and newborn nursery at the end of June and we’d be eternally grateful if anyone would would like to donate to help us get there.

The space will be dedicated to helping pregnant animals give birth in a safe and clean environment and bond with their newborns little ones. It will also give the newborns somewhere to begin their life with plenty of space and room to learn, have fun and bond with their mother.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported our journey to Mini’s Place so far, we appreciate your kindness so much 🫶🏽

UPDATE ON FELIX.

Our lovely boy Felix has been reserved and will be joining his new home very soon where he will continue his cage rest for the next month. Felix has shown great resilience in the face of adversity and is doing so well after the terrible ordeal he has suffered. He is eating well and purring for England. He had his last check a few days ago and the vet was very pleased with his progress.

Felix will have two other cats for company and a safe outside space. We could not be happier.

Every picture tells a story and boy o boy does this little chap, Felix have a story to tell, a story of resilience and courage.

Hit by a car, dragged along by the car, sustaining terrible injures he still manged to drag himself to safety, his injuries so bad his left leg had to be amputated.

After a week convalescing in the vets he came to us. He is on 6weeks cage rest and all things considered he is doing remarkably well, his spirit is strong and we expect him to make a complete recovery and have a full and active life.

Pip has been in foster care now for 6 weeks. Her character is starting to shine through. She is 4 years old, loves her food and enjoys her lick e Lix treats. As she is a semi longhaired cat, she is starting to feel comfortable being brushed. Pip, is looking for a home where she is the only pet, with someone who can spend time with her building up that special bond.
She will need to be an indoor cat, in an adult only home, with possibly older children.
But no small children. If you are interested in giving her a home, please message us directly or give us a call on 01388 311019 OR 07748268822

Five pairs of eyes staring at the camera frightened and bewildered.

These little souls have just arrived after being taken out of a horrendous situation.

Hopefully, soon, they will start to relax and enjoy their spacious surroundings, time, patience and good food will hopefully pay off for these five and their lives in time can begin again in kind and loving homes.

There is a sixth cat, a beautiful ginger boy who came in at the same time but he is so traumatised we could not get a picture of him.
