Today we remember the 796 Seaborne Observers who served as part of the D-Day landings on the 6th of June 1944. They formed a vital part of the operation and ensured that unlike other amphibious landings like Anzio and Dieppe, no Allied aircraft were shot down by their own side.

Gavin also remembers his grandfather today because he drove an AEC Matador artillery tractor onto Gold beach as part of the D-Day landings. This photo shows him and his fellow members of the Honourable Artillery Company in Belgium later in 1944.

Gavin and David had an excellent day at the Cold War Collections Symposium at the National Museum of Scotland today. Gavin presented about how the group curated and shows the collection to the public. It was great to run into Devon from HES, all the NMS staff including Sarah and Meredith, Bob from Ayr Group ROC and we made new some friends as well. A couple of drinks with Michael Sanders and Taras Young afterwards elevated a great day into a superb one. Thanks to the NMS for organizing a great day and for inviting us along!
