With the Scottish Government's "Programme For Government" due to be released, the issue of Public Sector Reform remains on the table.
The idea that already hollowed out Public Service (particularly Council Services which have borne the brunt of austerity cuts) can somehow magic up a further Half a Billion pounds and 0.5% staffing cuts each year is just staggering.

UNISON has lodged a dispute with COSLA over their failure to pay council workers a minimum of £15 per hour.
Despite an agreement going back to early 2024 COSLA have failed to meet the April 2026 deadline.
This pledge was as a result of UNISON members striking for better pay in 2023.
Introducing a minimum rate of £15 across local government is the right thing to do, it will increase pay for the lowest paid and push wages up across councils improving recruitment and retention
UNISON will not forget about this pledge even though COSLA might want to.
All council staff deserve fair pay and a minimum rate of £15 per hour.

We are saddened to hear the sad news of the passing of Tom Ferguson. Prior to being a councillor Tom was a long standing school support staff rep and Branch Officer. He stood up for our members and was a great support to new reps with his experience and knowledge of schools. Our condolences to Tom's family and friends.

Some really interesting details in this latest briefing. Never accept the argument that there is no money for decent pay and investment in public services. What is lacking is the political will of those in power in councils and parliaments.
