Ruby and her Grandad have been reunited 💔

He left us on Sunday, peacefully, at home, with Ruby’s Grandma by his side, just as he wanted.

He will remain a huge part of our family, just as Ruby is, for ever more.

We can just picture the two of them, dancing and laughing, as they used to do. Together again for eternity.

Like Ruby, he leaves a legacy of optimism, fun, and a zest for life.

We will miss him very much, but we’re glad he no longer has to endure the horrible disease that is cancer.

Rest in peace, Dad 💙

Dear Ruby

Your page has been very quiet recently. Posts have slowed, fundraising has paused. It might feel like we’ve gone away.

We haven’t.

Far from it.

The things is, your Grandad isn’t well.

Cancer has returned to him in the same way it returned to you.
Relapsed disease.
No treatment available.

He will be joining you. We’re not sure when, and hope we have a while longer, but the cancer is spreading every day.

Your favourite person is coming back to you.

Unlike you, our amazing girl, your Grandad has lived a long life.
A happy one…
A great one.

He is full of stories, memories and wisdom.

We don’t want him to go, but, like you, we don’t want him to suffer. We know you will be watching, waiting, ready with a big Ruby cuddle for him.

We will be back sometime, but we’re not sure when.

You remain, always, in our hearts 🩷

Congratulations to the best team you could hope for.

We were looked after so well throughout Ruby’s treatment.

From diagnosis to death, this team had our backs.

This award is so well deserved.

And, just to underline the bond Ruby had with this team and the legacy she left… have a closer look at a couple of those lanyards 🦄🩷

Thank you Paediatric Oncology team for being there for us and all of the other children and families you care for. We are very grateful for everything you did and everything you continue to do🎗️

Our Gold winner in the Clinical Team category is the Paediatric Oncology team – congratulations!

NEW RESEARCH!

Due to the support from all of you amazing people, and through the joined up forces of CCLG’s other special named funds, CCLG and Children with Cancer UK, this new project is possible.

This is what Ruby wanted. It’s what she needed. New research. New treatments. A new approach.

It is 8 years to the day since Ruby started radiotherapy. We hoped that, combined with intense chemotherapy, it would cure her. It didn’t. It made her really sick. It prolonged her life. But it didn’t get rid of the cancer.

So we are incredibly thankful to everyone who has helped us to contribute to this project. We are filled with hope for a positive outcome that translates to more effective treatments for children like Ruby.

Co-funded by our friends at Pass The Smile For Ben, Just George and Jacob's Join. It’s an honour to be able to join with them in memory of our amazing children🎗️

13 years ago a star was born.

She is forever 6.

It’s 7 years since she celebrated her final birthday.

We should have a teenager bringing us all of the teenage angst.

Happy birthday Ruby 💖

We took your dogs up Arthur’s Seat today. We always said we would take you when you were better. We looked up at that view every time we took you for your treatment. Thank you for the sunshine ☀️

We miss you every day 🩷🦄

6 years ago today, a celebration of Ruby’s life took place at Inchture Parish Church.

It was live streamed online, watched in church, at school, and in some far away places, including the other side of the world.

A tribute we will never forget. We will always be grateful to everyone who attended, travelled and supported us in honouring our amazing girl.

The recording remans available. We hope it will be there forever, in her memory 🩷🦄

The live stream of the service of celebration for Ruby’s life took place at 2.30pm on Friday 17th January, 2020. A recording of the service is available below.

6 years have passed since we last held your hand. 6 years. It seems so long since we last saw you. Last spoke to you. Last touched and heard you.

There is no better sound than your laughter. That will never change.

6 years that seem to have gone so fast, but it feels like a lifetime since you were in our lives on this earth.

The days just now feel exactly as they did when you died. The skies are beautiful bright blues, pinks and orange. The moon and the sun shine at the same time. The ground sparkles with icy frost.

We remember in the days after you died driving to see you, the moon shining brightly in front of us, and feeling like we could almost see you dancing up there, on the moon, happy and free.

We love you Ruby. Cancer should not have taken your life. We miss you every day and we always will.

We will take you with us as we visit the places you loved today. Remembering the best times with the best girl 🩷💔

We know, it’s nearly Christmas, but we can’t escape what was happening in our lives 6 years ago today. And we wouldn’t want to. Every memory of Ruby is precious.

Our girl was transferred by the fantastic ScotSTAR ambulance team from Ninewells to Edinburgh Sick Kids. We thought we could lose and her that night, and we almost did.

But she pulled through for her last Christmas on this earth.

We will always be grateful that we got that time - that incredible, heartbreaking time with our amazing ray of sunshine.

Always remembering you Ruby. You never fade from our lives. You never will.

Love you 🩷

Well done to our L7 Rota Kids who have been busy helping raise money for a very good cause. ✨

The group members have been sorting and delivering Junior Years class orders of Christmas cards, decorations, mugs and tea towels, all featuring designs created by pupils. 🎄

A wonderful total of £1,136 has been raised and will be donated to Be More Ruby a local charity which raises funds and awareness of childhood cancer.

Great work everyone! 👍
