“To win the North Western Counties Field Trial Society 2-Day Open with Labdom Quinn after two tough days in the Lancashire sugar beet is something I’ll never forget. Quinn gave me absolutely everything, and watching her work at her best was incredibly special.

As everyone knows, there are so many hours, early mornings, training days and, of course, more lows than highs that go into getting to this point. That’s what makes days like this even more rewarding.

To now have the opportunity to represent the club at the IGL Championship in December is a huge honour. I’m incredibly proud of Quinn and so grateful to everyone who has helped and supported us along the way.

A massive thank you to Joanne and Kevin, the judges, guns, helpers and everyone at North Western Counties for giving us the opportunity to compete in such a fantastic trial.

What was going through my mind on each retrieve? “Mark it, log it, don’t rush!””

A/V Retriever 2 Day Qualifier 7th & 8th September 2026

What a fantastic 2 days! Great atmosphere, perfect conditions with a strong breeze which tested the dogs and exceptional shooting from the guns made for a great trial with some excellent retrieves!

There are so many people involved in making trials run as smoothly as they do and they start with the Judges, who give up their time and a chance to run their dogs, so we would like to say a very sincere thank you to Helen Goodwin, Thomas Bushby, Phil Bruton and Ian Palmer.

The guns play a massive part with their contribution towards the cost of the trial but also for it running smoothly with the high standard they have given us over the past 2 days.

Our team of helpers who have given up runs of their own and days off work to ensure the trial can go ahead, from the amazing Pat Dixon and Paula Mayo for dog stewarding, Bob & Julie Flewitt from Pilling Moss Gundog Club, Rox McIlroy for picking-up and Debbie Roberts, Dennis Fenna, Savannah Roskell and Kevin Wood for carrying… thank you, we couldn’t have done it without you!!!

We are very lucky to have the support from Gundog Gear, Skinners, ACME Whistles, Axel’s Elixir and Fettle and we would like to say a huge thank you for your sponsorship of our Club.

Thank you to the Holden family and Robin Thompson who has looked after us over the past 2 days and his knowledge and expertise made for a very smooth trial.

And now the trial itself …. Day 1 started at a nice steady pace, which gave the dogs chance to settle in and by the end of the 1st round 12 dogs were left. The second round continued pushing back through the sugar beet and a further 4 dogs went out to finish on 8 dogs remaining for day 2.

Day 2 started out with an eyewipe early on and as the wind picked up the dogs were finding it trickier to find the birds, with the trial ending with 2 dogs remaining.

And so we are delighted to announce:

1st Place: Jason Barnes with Labdom Quinn
2nd Place: Ronnie Laughton with Etomanni Missouri
Guns’ Choice: David Latham with Bluecreek Gum Grey

Thank you to everyone who entered the trial, we wish you all the very best for the rest of the season and good luck to Jason Barnes who will be representing us at the IGL Championship in December.

The draw has taken place for the 2 day Open A/V Retriever stake taking place 7/8 September. Emails have been sent to everyone in the draw so please check both your Inbox and Junk folders. If in doubt, please email [email protected].

If you would like to accept your run, please ensure your entry fee is paid within 48 hours, to the normal NWCFTA bank account, to avoid forfeiting your run - thank you!
