Guild of Gaming AGM 2026 | Saturday 14th November, 1pm
A wee video from me ahead of our upcoming AGM in November!
It's a bit of a long one, but I wanted to explain what Guild of Gaming does behind the scenes, what being a trustee involves and hopefully encourage a few more people to put themselves forward!
One thing I really want to emphasise is that we're not expecting everyone to commit the same amount of time or bring the same skills. We need a good mix of people, whether that's helping at sessions, fundraising, managing finances, supporting our safeguarding arrangements or bringing fresh ideas to the table.
Good governance is incredibly important too. Having trustees who ask difficult questions, scrutinise our finances and challenge decisions is essential. What I'm really keen to encourage is a board that can do all of that constructively, working together to make the Guild the best it can be.
We've now secured almost ÂŁ100,000 through grants and fundraising, including our recent ÂŁ63,000 National Lottery award covering the next two years. That's a huge responsibility, and making sure we manage that funding properly, follow our safeguarding procedures and keep everything accessible to our community is incredibly important.
AGM Details
Our AGM will take place on Saturday 14th November at 1pm.
Formal notice will be issued to our members ahead of the meeting, with the full agenda being shared on Saturday 31st October, two weeks beforehand.
One of the main things we'll be doing at the AGM is electing our Board of Trustees for the coming year.
Interested in becoming a trustee?
Anyone wishing to stand for election should express their interest ahead of the AGM. Candidates must be registered members of the charity and meet the eligibility requirements set out in our constitution.
We'd ask that everyone standing comes prepared to give a short statement on the day, explaining why they'd like to join the board, what they could bring to the Guild and perhaps some ideas they'd like to explore over the coming year.
How will voting work?
Voting will take place in accordance with our constitution.
Our board can have up to seven trustees, with five positions elected by our members and a further two positions available for co-option by the board.
Each eligible voting member will have the opportunity to vote on the candidates standing for election. The five elected positions will be filled through the voting process, with any ties affecting the final places resolved through further voting in accordance with our meeting procedures.
Full details of the voting process will be explained at the AGM so everyone knows exactly how it works.
Looking ahead to 2027
Ultimately, I'm incredibly proud of what we've built here, but there's so much more we could do with a few more people involved.
2027 is shaping up to be a massive year for Guild of Gaming. We've got our own home at Cresswell Community Centre, funding secured for the next two years, and some really exciting plans for events, community activities and further development of the charity.
What we need more than anything is people who want to be part of that.
Whether that's bringing new ideas, helping us strengthen what we already do, offering constructive challenge or simply giving a few hours of your time to make things happen, there's a place for you here.
And remember, you don't need to be a trustee to make a difference! We're always grateful for people who want to volunteer and help out with our activities.
I'm really excited to see who puts themselves forward, and I'm looking forward to what the next year brings for Guild of Gaming.
