Today saw us play the quarter-final of the Bill Quinn Trophy, as we welcomed current A League leaders St Cuthbert's.
It was always going to be a tough game and the terrible weather conditions in the first half didn't help.

Playing with the wind in the the first half proved to be more of a disadvantage than a blessing, with the boys giving away possession too easily with repeated long balls rather than playing their usual passing game. A few costly errors, a lack of marking and Saint's size and physical difference saw Greystone go into half time 4-0 down.

The weather thankfully improved in the second half and, with encouragement to stop the long balls and revert back to keeping the ball on the deck, there was more to cheer for the home side.
Greystone scored after some great work on the left wing saw Ollie slip a ball through to Aaron. He drove into the penalty box and drilled the ball past the keeper into the far corner. 👏
Saints continued to play some great football and added another two in the second half.

A hard shift again but the boys battled well and the game ended 1-6 at the final whistle. Unfortunately no finals for us this year. 😐

It's back to league action next Sunday with a home visit by Threave Rovers.

Back to league action this week as we welcomed Gretna Colts to Marchmount. The lads were keen to make up for last weeks' cup disappointment, which saw a hefty defeat at the hands of the older Greystone team. Thankfully, today was a different type of game altogether.

Gretna took an early lead after a corner wasn't cleared, but the boys responded brilliantly, taking control of the game and powering to a 12-2 win with some outstanding attacking play.
We levelled the game quickly and the coaches were delighted to see a set-piece straight off the training ground result in a back-post header from Gibbo, followed quickly with a volley from Oscar to put us ahead. Jake made it 3-1 after a composed 1v1 finish, Harry added number 4 from Ruben's through ball, Jo drilled in a low fifth and got another shortly after from Harry's cut-back.

Half-time: Greystone 6 : 1 Gretna

It was deja vu as Gretna grabbed another early in to the second half, but the boys stayed positive and kept the goals flowing. Jake got his second from an Aiden assist and completed his hat-trick after great feet from Josh and an unselfish square ball from Aiden. Aiden then headed in from an Oscar corner before adding another ably assisted by Jake. Oliver fired in off the post for number 11 before Oscar rounded things off with a low finish after a short-corner move.

Full-time: Greystone 12 : 2 Gretna

A blustery morning in Dumfries sees us take on our fellow Rovers as we face the older 2011s team in the semi-final of the Alex Whiteside Cup.

A tough ask for the lads but we're sure they'll be looking to replicate last year's efforts which saw them reach both finals.

Good Luck Lads! 💪

Thank you to Morton for this afternoon's game, our second friendly of the weekend. The boys were looking jaded after playing yesterday but did their best despite heavy legs.

Well Done to our 2013s who helped out our depleted squad - a special shout out to Blake for his last minute goal. It was great to see our lads supporting and encouraging the younger boys.

We look forward to getting all the squad back for tomorrow's training session. 💪

Thank you to Tekkers for this afternoon's friendly. A fantastic chance for the lads who don't get much game time to play the majority of a game. Well Done lads.

Tomorrow we have a friendly with Morton at home. Unfortunately we have quite a lot of boys unavailable so we look forward to welcoming some of our younger boys to join us.

No league or cup action this weekend, but no rest for this committed bunch.

Not one, but two friendlies in the calendar to help us keep developing.

Saturday is an away fixture with Tekkers and Sunday sees us welcome our old league pals Morton Thistle to Marchmount.

Today saw us back in league action at Marchmount as we aimed to build on our progress so far to challenge for the B League title.

We were back at home against Annan Athletic with a few changes to our starting line-up. Lennox got a run-out in goals leaving with a clean-sheet, Harry started as striker and proved a persistent menace to the opposition's defence. Along with Harry, Aiden was given a prominent starting role in reward for their efforts in training.

The lads looked confident from the start with those better efforts on the training ground showing on the field. An early goal from Aiden, 6 minutes in allowed the team to settle quickly. Hopes of adding to this total early on saw some frustration, with a number of close calls ruling goals out for offside.

The second goal did come just after the half hour with a scramble in the box leading to Aiden slotting home his second of the match. Harry was unlucky not to grab number 3 shortly after, when his long-distance effort smashed off the crossbar and down - but not over the goal line.

HALF-TIME 2- 0 (Jake on for Aiden, Oscar on for Aaron). At half-time, the coaches reminded the boys to utilise the space available to them and not rush their passes.

Thankfully we didn't have to wait too long for the next goal which came soon after the break. Ally, who continues to provide a calm presence in midfield, played another defence splitting ball to find Ollie, who cut it back to Jake to tap in for the third.

Number four was from the penalty spot when Gibbo stepped up to drill home a low shot after being fouled in the box. The scoring was rounded off by Oscar with his first of the campaign, firing home a free-kick from the edge of the box.

That proved to be the final action of the game as the boys finished 5-0 victors. Praise must be given to all the defensive players and keeper for keeping a clean-sheet.

FULL-TIME 5-0

All in all a comfortable win but the tempo dropping off too often and at critical points raised comment from the coaches, who want the boys to learn to kill off teams with more intensity and clinical finishing over the 80 minutes.

No game this weekend for the 12s but we have had confirmation of the split for the League. As we are sitting smack bang in the middle, the split could have gone either way for us with an odd number of teams. However, we can now confirm we will be heading into the second half of the season as part of the B League. The boys can feel a huge amount of pride for their efforts in the their first year in the Under 15 League. We've made a great start, and although points are tight between us and others in the B League, we are looking forward to challenging for the title. We also want to wish all the best to our friends at Greystone Rovers 2011’s who will be competing for the Under 15s A League. Good Luck Lads!

We also have some further cup action to look forward to:

GR12 v St Cuthbert's in the Quarter Final of the Bill Quinn Trophy

GR12 v GR 11 in the Semi-Final of the Alex Whiteside Trophy

Bring it on!

We are back online! Woohoo!
Lots to catch up on!

It was a baptism of fire early in the season as we took on most of the big teams that we expected to be, and have remained, at the top of the league.

Things began to pick up in the latter parts of the full league season with 4 wins and 1 defeat taking us up to the league break.

At this stage we are mid-table ahead of the League breaking in to two mini-leagues - one playing for the league cup and one for the league plate.

The coaches are incredibly proud of the efforts of the boys, playing against teams that are either mixed age or a full year above.

Physically it has been tough at times as the lads have battled against some incredibly powerful teams, but equally it has been a fantastic learning curve.

We await our fate .......

Annan Away - 30 November - 4-1

St Cuthbert's Home - 7 December - 1-8 (1-0 to us at the break)

Threave Rovers Home - 14 December - 9 - 6

Uppers Home - 11 January - 2-1

Terregles Away - 25 January - 5-4

Well Done Lads!!!!

Hard Work Pays Off ...

'I need to start with a confession. Not many things bug me, but if there’s one thing that does, it’s the idea that my story is a football fairy tale.

I know when people say I’m some sort of Cinderella Man that it’s meant as a compliment. I appreciate that, but to be totally honest, it doesn’t feel like one, because it isn’t true.

No magic wands have been waved in my direction, I didn’t win some kind of lottery to land a spot on one of the biggest clubs in the world. The reason why I’m a Liverpool player is the same reason why I’m captain of my country: I’ve worked my bo****ks off to get where I am, and by doing that, I’ve been able to make the most of whatever talent I have.

Why does this matter? In truth, it doesn’t matter to me as an individual. It probably doesn’t matter to my family, either. It only matters because there are God knows how many little Andy Robertsons out there. Kids who are struggling to convince people that their talent deserves an opportunity. Kids who just need a break to get to wherever they deserve to be.

Kids who might give up if they start believing that only a fairy tale can save them.

I’ve never wanted to be a poster boy, but if I’m going to be a poster boy for anything, it should be this ― if you don’t give up, and if you carry on believing in yourself when others are doubting you, you can make it. You can show that you are good enough.'
