The Ghost Ships is an illuminated Halloween charity boat parade which sets sail from Long Sandall and travels the South Yorkshire Navigation through the night to the New Inn, Stainforth.

‼️EVENT CANCELLED‼️

Hi everyone, today myself and James have the made the very difficult decision to cancel this years Ghost Ships parade.

The decision was made because of an unprecedented and sudden influx of w**d blocking parts of the route. Unlike previous years, the w**d is coming down in huge sections a lot later in the year than usual.

We have surveyed the canal this morning as we do every year, and there are points which are just unnavigable. This is especially dangerous at night if skippers need to free themselves from the w**d given the decorations and lights on the boats.

We also understand that much more w**d will be brought down through the section of canal, usually pulled along by the commercial boats you see.

There is also the consideration of anyone falling in, with massive amounts of the w**d covering many areas on the bank along the route. The safety of the participants and spectators has to be our prime concern.

We are absolutely gutted to bring you this news as we have worked hard to make it happen this given the varying issues facing us.

I know I asked you all to contribute to the event via our Just Giving page and this money has already gone to the insurance and application fee. We can defer the insurance costs till next year and I will look into the fee which was kindly paid for by the team at Harry's 40's Day.

We wanted to get this decision out today to give everyone a chance to make alternative plans for Halloween and we hope you all still enjoy your evening, whatever you get up to.

We hope to bring parade back for 2027 and will consider what's happened this year in our long term planning for the event, considering ways ion which the Canal and River Trust can assist with such issues.

We sincerely apologise and hope to see you all next year.🙁

It's our pleasure to help promote another great community event!

🇬🇧 Harry's 40's Day 🇬🇧

Earlier this month we were kindly contacted by Andy who is Harry's Dad. He told us that they donate the money they make from events to various cancer charities and local groups and they have offered to pay our application fee for the Ghost Ships this year which costs £125. He asked in return that we help to promote their event and we are touched by such generosity and we will be happy to help in any we can.

Harry's 40's Day celebrates the life of young Harry Peace who sadly passed away 4 years ago this month. He sounds like a truly wonderful boy and is sorely missed by his family, friends and the community.

The event hosts an action packed weekend with plenty going on from military vehicles to live music & craft and food stalls to dancing plus loads more. So remember to save the date and get yourself along!
