Back to school care kit ✏️

Are you in the process of starting college or getting the kids all sorted for their first day back at school?

It can certainly be an overwhelming time. Your thoughts are in overdrive and there can be that daunting feeling of the unknown creeping in. At times like these, it's really helpful to look at some ways to step back and slow things down.

When stressed, the body thinks it's under attack and switches to ‘fight or flight’ mode. By implementing some self care strategies into your day, it can help lessen these feelings.

Maybe you can build your own self care kit inspired by this post. You may also feel it would be beneficial to find out more about our in house wellbeing groups and courses. Groups and courses are 18+ only. You must live in the Doncaster area to access our FREE wellbeing support.

What if getting support was just the beginning?

At Doncaster Mind, we’re creating opportunities for people to do more than simply get involved. We’re developing people who contribute, build experience and take their next step.

For Melissa Clarke, that journey began when she joined us as a student counsellor volunteer in 2025. We’re proud that Melissa has now taken up a paid role in our Mind and Money Matters project as a Project Coach, using her skills to support people experiencing food poverty, financial challenges and mental health difficulties.

Niamh Sansom joined us as a volunteer mentor in March 2026. Having got to know our approach to supporting people with their mental health, Niamh has now taken the next step into paid employment as a Mental Health Community Connector.

Two people. Two different journeys. Both showing what can happen when volunteering creates opportunities to learn, develop and contribute. And this is something we’re building.

Our new Volunteering Hub is creating more opportunities for people to get involved with Doncaster Mind, develop new skills, gain experience and make a difference in their community.

For some, the journey might begin by accessing our support. For others, it might begin with volunteering. And for some, it could lead to paid employment and, in time, leadership.

Could volunteering with Doncaster Mind be your next step?

✨️ At the beginning of the month we had our Self Care and Pamper Session ✨️

A huge thank you to Libby from nailsbylibbyl for volunteering her time to pamper us and make us feel cared for and relaxed 😌 💅

Clients were also able to enjoy mindfulness colouring, aromatherapy, journaling and crafting. We popped on a film or two and had mocktails and snacks!

Clients said they enjoyed all of the different activities and said it was good to have that dedicated time just for them 💙

Everyone left smiling, feeling relaxed and rejuvenated 💙

Good Luck on Results day!

To all the incredible hard working students receiving their results whether this be GCSE, A- Level or BTEC results we want to wish you all the very best of luck.

You have all worked incredibly hard, shown dedication, resilience and should be proud of everything that you have achieved. No matter what results you receive just remember that they are just one part of your journey and they do not define you or your potential.

If your results are not what you hoped and you would like to access support during this time then please don't hesitate to get in touch with us - request a call here https://www.doncastermind.org.uk/request-a-call/

Could being more active help you feel better?

Today (10th August) we’re launching a new way of connecting physical activity with mental wellbeing at Doncaster Mind.

We know that when our mental health isn't great, being active can be one of the first things to disappear. We might spend more time at home, lose our routine, feel less confident or become more isolated.

And getting started again can feel like a big step.

That’s why we’re not simply offering activities. We start with you - what’s happening, what you’d like to change and what might help.

Thanks to funding from ASICS, we can offer activities including yoga, non-competitive football and running. We’re also connected to organisations across Doncaster offering many other types of physical activity, so we can help you explore what might be right for you.

You don't have to be fit. You don't have to be sporty. And you don't have to know what you want to do before you get in touch.

If your mental health is affecting how active you are or you think becoming more active could help you feel better, start with a conversation, not a commitment.
