CCA invites you to our Halloween workshops suitable for all ages. Using three colours of card you will have the chance to create original Halloween Pennants to take home and display during the Halloween season. This activity is suitable for beginners and Halloween craft enthusiasts. Spooky source material will be available for inspiration to help you create your own bewitching banners. Members of the team will be on hand during the sessions.

The next in our CCA bitesize lunchtime talk with PhD Researchers welcomes Ashab Arid Ahmad with his research into ‘The Orchard Gallery’s Archival Legacies’

The Orchard Gallery (1978 to 2003) operated as Derry’s first contemporary visual arts space. Ashab will indicate his initial findings on how the Orchard’s archival material has preserved organisational practices that asserted localised agency within a wider context.

Ashab is undertaking his PhD at Ulster University, in collaboration with the Void Art Centre, using archival material held at Void to research the Orchard Gallery’s impact on Derry’s artistic ecosystem.

These 1-2-1 surgeries with CCA Director Catherine Hemelryk are for emerging/re-emerging artists based in or from the north of Ireland. These are for you if you want to chat about your work, receive critical feedback and practical advice such project next steps or anything you are stuck with.

Four slots are available per day with each lasting for 25 minutes starting at 2pm, 2:30pm, 3pm and 3:30pm.

🗣️Good Relations Week: Curator Tour of ‘The Night Journal’
🗓️ Friday 16 October 2026, 2–2:30pm
📍 CCA Derry~Londonderry

Join Catherine Hemelryk for an informal tour of ‘The Night Journal’, an exhibition by four, intergenerational artists exploring constructed realities of the night at CCA Derry~Londonderry.

This tour is for anyone with an interest in art and will include a welcome to CCA by Director Catherine Hemelryk, and an overview of their activity as well as an insight into the artworks in the exhibition. The artists on show are Reuben Brown, Michaela Razafima Nash, Aisling O’Beirn and Wilhelmina Peace with work spanning drawing, print, film, installation and text.

The tour will move around the gallery spaces, benches are provided in two rooms and chairs can be available for anyone who might need a seat.

We are updating our roster of Project Managers for occasional short term, temporary projects working with contemporary visual art and artists, audiences, stakeholders and communities.

🦌 CCA Ulster University Graduate Support Award: Natalie Gibson

Natalie Gibson is the MFA recipient of the 2026 CCA Ulster University Graduate Support Award. The Award consists of the opportunity to use CCA’s Project Space, stipend and mentoring with CCA Director Catherine Hemelryk.

Born in Castlewellan, Natalie Gibson is a painter, based in Belfast. Her practice experiments with playful colour palettes and drawing elements to explore ambiguous figures that are instinctively discovering, navigating and interacting with their version of the rural earth alongside the nature and animals that inhabit it for the first time with a curious and innocent intention. Her practice focused on the Irish landscape, mythology and Folk-tales from the country including shape-shifting and the search to find the perfect physical form, which is truly representative of self as a transmigration of souls.

Natalie graduated with First Class Honours in Fine Art from Belfast School of Art in 2022 and MFA in 2026. She has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions within Belfast and the UK. She was previously a member of the Emerging Artist Program at Flax Art Studio, Belfast (2022–2026). Most notably, Gibson was one of eleven emerging artists across the UK to be awarded The Freelands Painting Prize in 2022, representing Belfast School of Art alongside fifty Universities.

Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Arts and Culture Co‑Delivery Group has launched a new Associate Artists Pilot Programme, supporting stronger, more purposeful collaboration between cultural organisations and individual artists whose work aligns with each organisation’s ethos.

CCA is running a pilot Associate Artist programme for an artist in the Derry City & Strabane District area.

CCA is seeking an emerging (or re-emerging) Associate Artist from Derry City & Strabane District to spend three months developing their practice supported by CCA. This will take form of three dedicated mentoring sessions with CCA’s Director, 24/7 access to use CCA’s Project Space for a month, profile on CCA’s website and social media. Their time in the Project Space will support the development of their practice, with access to CCA’s passing audiences on Artillery Street. The space may be used as a living studio, to remix existing work, to create a fully new installation – it will be self-directed in conversation with CCA’s Director – all aimed at experimentation and the development of the artist’s practice, confidence, skills and profile.

🔄 RECAP Q***r Archives Writing Workshop
📍In Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin on Saturday 22 August 2026, as part of Foyle Pride Festival.

✍️Where did our stories go? with writer and activist Séadgh Donohue.
📚 Participants leafed through accounts of q***r existence and activism in books, pamphlets and photos found in the Rainbow Project in Derry, the Linen Hall Library in Belfast and beyond. Séadgh provided the group with writing prompts to use alongside the archival material.

🌈Thank you to Séadgh for providing the archival materials and delivering this workshop for Foyle Pride. Thank you to Foyle Pride for the support to be part of the festival's programme.
