As part of FORWARD’s ‘Culture and Conflict In Your Face’ programme, we took a group of participants to the Millennium Forum to explore the impact of the hunger strikes on young people, as portrayed in the powerful play The Body of Bobby 🎞️

This play encouraged our participants to reflect on the legacy of the hunger strikes, the impact it had on local communities, and how the events of the past continue to shape the identity, the memory and the experiences of young people today.

We would highly recommend going to see The Body of Bobby if you get a chance – it’s a brilliant mix of history, storytelling and humour! A big shoutout to all the incredibly talented actors who brought the play to life 🎭

The FORWARD Project visited the James Connolly Visitor Centre Belfast yesterday.

Our participants had a brilliant time at the centre and this day created opportunities for us to learn more about history. It was also the perfect chance to connect with others and feel part of the wider community.

In September the FORWARD Project ran a second Study Trip to the Balkans. This group of community and peace workers had an immersive experience in understanding this other modern European conflict with deep historical roots, and looking at the lessons we might learn from it.
The group spent time in both the border region of Croatia and at the CIM Peace Farm in Bosnia. They engaged with survivors of war and ethnic cleansing, with former combatants, and with victims, who are now working for peace and healing.
Over the next few months the group will convene again to reflect on their experiences and explore how this will inform their work and practice in their own communities.
