News from Onzain:
In a solemn and warm atmosphere, the installation council was held this Saturday, March 21, 2026, in the party hall.
Many residents had made the trip to witness this landmark moment in municipal life, symbolized by the relay crossing between Pierre Olaya and Yves Lecuir: the former was awarded the medal of the city for his years of commitment to the service of others, while that the second was handed over the keys to the municipality.

All the municipal councilors were then called to form the new municipal council and to proceed with the election, by secret bulletin, the mayor of Veuzain-sur-Loire, the delegated mayors of Onzain and Veuves, as well as the team of deputies.

Have been elected:
- Maire de Veuzain-sur-Loire : Yves Lecuir
- Mayor delegate of Onzain: Pierre Bonneville
- Mayor delegate of Widows: Marie Clément
- Deputies to the mayor: Philippe Bellamy, Laëtitia Bonneau, Philippe Carrez, Gérard Hersant, Marylène Reuillon

This weekend:if anyone can spare a couple of hours to help get this campsite tidied up after being vandalized, please come along.

I was so deeply disappointed to see the recent vandalism at Tansley Wood Scout Campsite, an asset that gives so many young people the chance to learn, grow, and build confidence.

Spaces like this matter as they’re where young people develop teamwork and a connection to nature. Such mindless vandalism should never take away the opportunities we provide for the next generation.

I’m incredibly encouraged by the response from local volunteers, and I’m urging anyone who can to join the community clean-up on 21st and 22nd March. Let’s come together to restore this space, if you’re able to lend a hand, please do: it will make a real difference.

Our friends in Onzain are arranging a youth cycling adventure in August this year and have invited youngsters from Darley Dale and Flein (Germany) to join them. We have identified two students from this area to participate, but there are still some places available for anyone interested. The attached link sets out the project aims and itinerary in some more detail and whilst the organisers have secured some European funding, they are also looking for private donations. Although we are not able to support a large number of Darley Dale participants we think this is a great initiative and one we would encourage you to support if possible. The Wirksworth Twinning Association is showing the film 'DYING(Sterben)' at The Northern Lights Cinema (NLC) on Tuesday 17th February. It's a German film with English subtitles. From 5:30pm Wirksworth Twinning will be hosting an informal social gathering at NLC with nibbles and a raffle, before the film starts at 6pm.
Their March film, 'Sirat,' a French and Spanish film with English subtitles, will be shown at NLC on Monday 16th March at 8pm and Tuesday 17th March at 5:30pm.

Sad News
It is with huge sadness that we announce the death of Frank Mason, who has been an active supporter of Darley Dale Twinning from the beginning. He will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, and the Darley Dale Community. His funeral is to be held on the 9th February, 10:00 am at Winster Church.

As part of our series introducing people who live and work in the Darley Dale community, say hello to Darley Dale Twinning's latest supporter, Rebecca Stevenson, who manages over a hundred people, and sixty patients at Valley Lodge Care Home in Darley Dale. It's always a busy place, but Rebecca is very keen to engage with a wide range of people in our community to help bring the best experience and quality of care to those working at or resident in Valley Lodge.
