Railway Children

Railway Children We believe in a world where no child ever has to live alone on the streets đź’š

Railway Children exists for children at risk of abuse and exploitation on streets and at transport hubs. Having run away or been forced to leave homes filled with poverty, violence, abuse or neglect, these children find themselves on the streets because there is nowhere else to go and no one left to turn to. But the problems they face on the streets are often far worse than what they have left beh

ind. Every day, across the UK, India and Tanzania, we aim to reach vulnerable children as soon as they arrive on the streets, before they come to harm. After meeting their immediate needs, we then work with children to change their stories – providing the support they and their families need for as long as it takes to build the brighter future they deserve.

When a young person is in crisis – a friendly face can change everything.

Meet Nicki, Railway Children’s first-ever Youth Outreach Worker.

Working alongside British Transport Police, South Western Railway and South Bank BID, she’s ensuring young people who are vulnerable and at risk at London Waterloo have someone to support them when it matters most.

How Railway Children’s Youth Outreach Worker at London Waterloo is supporting vulnerable young people in crisis and raising awareness.

Every year, dozens of you generously give up your time and energy to help create a happier future for children who really need your help.

Last year, between them, our volunteers massaged over 360 tired feet and served around 1,260 meals at our events around the country. They also manned a massive 21 stations at our legendary Rail Trail - an event that simply couldn't have happened without them.

Every day, children like Freddy go missing from home. Whether they are playing with friends and suddenly find themselves lost, running from homes where they feel unsafe, or leaving home in search of better futures.

But for every minute a child is missing, they are more vulnerable to the dangers of the street, and less likely to find their way home.

ÂŁ22 could fund a Railway Children worker to spend an entire day tracing families and helping children return home safely.

“I had no peace. I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t even drink.”

These are the words of Freddy’s mother as she shares the fear and heartbreak she experienced when her son went missing for seven days.

Thankfully, because of support like yours, we were able to reunite Freddy and his family, and provide education support, parenting sessions and business help, to ensure the whole family could stay together, and thrive together.

Around the country, Railway Children’s Community Engagement Workers engage with the public, look out for signs of vulnerability, help children stay safe on the railway and support train companies to safeguard young people.

It’s all in a day’s work and it’s all helping build hope in our communities every day. 💚

This , we’re proud to be working with Great Northern Thameslink Southern Railway and Gatwick Express to raise awareness of young people’s mental health across the rail network in the South.

You may spot our campaign – co‑created with young people from our Youth Platform – on trains and in stations.

Together, we’re helping more young people feel safe, seen and heard.
