After the sucess of our Bonding hearts night for Peeps, I would like to introduce our other charity of the year- The Genie’s Wish.

The Genie’s Wish Grant wishes to people who are terminally ill/ life limiting conditions 0-40 years old. They also grant sibling wishes for sibling carers.

My own (non-verbal) daughter, Neve, was given her voice age 12 when they granted her Wish for Eye Gaze technology (video below in comments).

Please have a look at their latest fundraising campaign- donating just £1 a month. And support them if you can.

Last week Sandbach Tangent were joined by Sandbach Ladies Circle and past Circlers, for our first Charity event of the year.

Peeps support anyone affected by HIE (Lack of blood and oxygen to the brain, often during or just after birth) to make Bonding Hearts.

The hearts will be included in Peeps Parent Packs, which are designed to support families practically and emotionally after an HIE event.

HIE babies can often be sent for Cooling treatment at a different unit/ hospital. Bonding hearts are exchanged between parent or carer and their child to carry each other’s scent, strengthen their bond even when apart, and hold some comfort in tough times.

As well as the hearts made on the night, Tangent, Circle and friends have kindly offered to make more in their own time.

Here’s why they’re so important:
“I remember the bonding hearts given to me, I still have them. They were my comfort blanket at the time I wouldn’t let her be moved anywhere without them!”
“We were never without them when we were apart.”
“I couldn’t see our baby for 4 days and the bonding heart I received made me feel close to her.”
“They felt like the most important thing in the world”

Last weekend our immediate past-chair, Ruth Williams (front of photo, with glasses) & current Chair- Liz Cockram (blonde hair, middle) joined Sandbach Ladies Circle at the National Ladies Circle AGM in Sheffield.
It was great to hear all the achievements of Ladies Circles across the country, and their plans for the coming year.
We also met our National Tangent immediate Past-President, Josie Blackburn & Liz Clingo - current Vice President.
And joined Roundtable and 41 Club for evening events over the weekend.

Our next event is linked to one of my charities of the year- Peeps.

I worked for Peeps for 5 years supporting families affected by HIE. (A few details of this in the link in the comments).

In my time there I worked directly with families, NHS staff and Health care professionals. To provide mental health and financial support as well as raising awareness of HIE.

HIE is an unexpected event and incredibly traumatic, with many babies needing to be moved for treatment at a different hospital- this is where our event, making Bonding Hearts, comes in.

We will need pieces of 100% cotton fabric so if you have or can get any- please do. If you can't attend but would like to support, I can send details of how to make and collect fabric donations.

No sewing experience or skill required!

Last night we had our first AGM / Meal at The Old Hall.

Huge thanks to Ruth Williams, as outgoing Chair and founder of Sandbach Tangent. Ruth has been Chair for 2 years, but in reality been working hard putting things in place for 3-4 years.

Ruth's chosen charities have recieved £1200:
£1000- Smile
£200- Car club at the girls school.

Both charities have a core focus on supporting positive mental health.

Liz Cockram is Sandbach Tangents 2026-27 Chair, and has chosen Peeps and The Genie’s Wish as her charities. Both support disabled families and those affected by life-threatening, life-limiting illness.

We also thank and celebrate Lisa Simpson and Sharon Joyce, who have worked hard for the group as committee members. And have both agreed to stay on for the coming year.

We are always looking for new committee members, and in particular we have big plans for fundraising this year.
