Sadly it has been brought to our attention that another tree in the orchard has been damaged today.

📢📢📢 OCTOBER WORK PARTY 📢📢📢

This coming Saturday is the October work party.

We will be finishing the scything of the meadow, and are also planning to tidy around the fruit trees, replace the tree that was sadly stolen earlier this year (provided the nursery have stock this week🤞🏼), putting some wildflower seeds down, and having a good tidy up of the paths.

All this work can only happen if we have a good turn out of volunteers - So if you are handy with a rake, a spade, a brush, or even a litter picker (there is sadly always litter along the brook edges), we would love to see you there! All ages and abilities are very welcome (even those who simply come along to have a lovely chat about our work). Please dress appropriately for the tasks at hand and the weather conditions.

On Monday, Bev and Kathy from our committee met with our local PC Joe Hickey, and his PCSO colleague from Crewe Police to discuss the thefts that have occurred at the two orchard sites at the Primrose Avenue Easy Access Trail.

They were very disappointed to hear of the things that have been stolen throughout the years since the first trees were planted (multiple stakes and tree ties), but were obviously most concerned by the theft of the tree and plaque that took place earlier this year.

They have promised to keep an eye on the area wherever possible, and will take seriously any reports they have on any suspicious activity that happens in the area. They were also very keen to get involved in the project and lend their physical support to us when they are able to... We will be sure to keep them informed of all future work parties and events taking place!

A huge thank you to Cheshire and Staffordshire Scything group and our own wonderful volunteers who put in 3 hours of hard graft scything, raking and clearing the wildflower meadow on Primrose Avenue today. There is a small patch left to do, but we will get that finished next month.
Scything is the most effective way of managing a wildflower meadow, and is much kinder to all the bugs who call the area home than going in with heavy machinery - it's also a good work out for all involved! 💪🏼

It's scything time once more! Please join us and Cheshire and Staffordshire Scything group for the annual cut of the wildflower meadow.

Volunteers of all abilities are very welcome - those who are trained in using scythes can assist with this traditional method of meadow management, but we do of course need other volunteers to come and help rake up the cuttings to remove them from the area of the meadow to stop them from enriching the soil too much as they rot down.

If you are not able to physically help with this task it will still be an enjoyable opportunity to see the experts at work, and ask questions about this incredible craft, so please do come along if you are interested in learning more.

Before the scything can happen, we need to clear as many of the docks from the area as possible, so this coming Saturday at 10am, a few of us will also be on site for an unofficial extra work party chopping the docks down - If you have a strong pair of secateurs and a pair of gardening gloves and are able to help with this task we would love to see you then too! 🤞🏼🤞🏼

What a lot of docks!!!

Thank you so much to the volunteers who came and braved the showers to help us cut down all the docks this morning - It should help to make the scything slightly easier next week!🤞🏼🤞🏼

Don't forget you can come and get involved with us next Saturday morning from 10am when we will be joined by Cheshire and Staffordshire Scything group to scythe the meadow. See previous posts for full detail.
