Archers, Bracken will be having its Summer BBQ and have a go on Saturday 4th July. In keeping with the Independence Day theme we will run a ‘Burntwood American’ in the morning for club archers starting at 10am. This is shot at 30m and is five ends on a 60cm face, five ends on an 80cm face finishing with five ends on a 122cm face. The BBQ will be after this and the have a go will run alongside during the day so please bring friends and family along. Please put your names down as normal for the shoot and let me know how many for the bbq by the 29th June for catering purposes See you all there Tracy 🏹

Sunday 14th and Bracken Archers are at it again! This was the Bowmen of Lytchett's Owl Shoot. Unusually, there were a lot of longbows with their strange druidic rights! Jo, Mark, Frazer, Ryan and Ralph shot. Frazer and Jo won trophies and gold medals, Ryan won a bronze medal for the most dangerous trousers (or possibly the third best barebow score), Ralph shot his target score for the day and Mark shot a seasons best for the dustance. If you haven't progressed to attending shoots at other clubs yet, don't be shy, we go as a Bracken family and new archers are very welcome. You don't have to be an expert just come along for the experience.

Last weekend a few Bracken archers went to Ospreys triple shoot. This is a 50m target round, 12, 3D animal course finished with a clout. As always it was a really fun and friendly shoot. We came away with gold and a trophy for Fraser (barebow), silver for Tracy ( barebow), gold and a trophy for Jo, ( longbow) gold and a trophy for Mike (compound), silver for Danny ( compound), bronze for Ryan (barebow) and silver for Mark ( longbow). Mark and Danny also won best golds for their categories and Jo literally won the entire raffle prizes in true Bracken style . Well done everyone and thankyou to everyone at Osprey for all your hard work putting this event together. We look forward to the autumn triple 🏹

Sorry for the delay in publishing these results. Our scorer had a computor mishap. Malcolm scoured the cabin for the shoot scoring sheets and I have put all he found on the list. If your score is not there, let us know and we will look again.

Today two Bracken Archers, Fraser and Tracy Murray joined forces with four South Wilts archers, Tom Godson, Jon Newlands and Brendan and Isabelle Reese to shoot as a team at Forest of Bere Bowman’s team shoot. The qualifier to be a team was what we had in common all shooting for DWAA. The team consisted of four barebow archers and two longbows. Despite the extremely hot weather they completed the Western Round. (60yds and 50yds). In true spirit they won
the team event with a whopping combined score of 3687 for the top four archers. Huge thankyou to everyone at FOBB for a fantastic shoot and lunch we look forward to next year 🏹

Well the Jurassic Coast Ultra has finished. Unfortunately Saffra and I were unable to finish the 100km Ultra March due to an Injury for me and Saffra's Blood Sugars, Blood Pressure dropped and being dizzy and nauseous. We are bitterly disappointed, but it was definitely the right decision not to continue. Saffra was in the midcal tent veing seen by the doctor. However we actually completed 82km in under 19 hrs. And at the point where we retired I was in 1st place for Men between 50-59 and 35th overall. Saffra was in 5th for woman 30-40 and 35th overall. This was also with 2600m of elevation gain as a section of the route was diverted and included many more hills than normal.

Although we did not complete the 100km (we were short by only 18km), the event transfered us to the 3/4 challenge because we did physically complete that (and more). So both Saffra and I are Jurassic Coast Ultra finishers and we're awarded our medals and T-Shirts. No photos because Saffra was too unwell and needed to rest.

To put the challenge into perspective in order of difficulty, technical complexity and overall achievement;

1. Trail Blazers - Run in UNDER 12hrs.
2. Ultra March (Saffra & my event) - Walk 100km in under 24 hrs (Timed).
3. Full 100km Challenge (untimed)
4. 100km Challenger over 2 days (untimed).
5. 3/4 Challenge (untimed).
6. 1st 1/4 Challenge (untimed).
7. 2nd 14 Challenge (untimed).
8. 1st Half Challenge (untimed).
9. 2nd Half Challenge (Untimed).

So you can see that the Ultra March is by far the most Diffcult and Technically demanding challenge other than the Trail Blazers.

For both of us to have completed 82km with 5+ hours left to complete the remaing 18 is fantastic. We are both extremely proud of our achievement.

To everyone who donated money to Breast Cancer Now....we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and hope you still think we did you and the charity proud - ultimately we did complete the Ultra and all the money raised will go to Breast Cancer Now. You can still donate untill mid June!
