Wimborne Choral Society is delighted to present its Summer Concert in Wimborne Minster on June 28th at 7.30.pm, conducted by Colin Davey with Sam Hanson at the organ.

We will be singing Five Spirituals from Tippett’s ‘A Child of Our Time’ and Kodály’s ‘Missa Brevis’. Both pieces are new ventures for the Society and we hope that you too will enjoy discovering them.

Significantly in the year when we have marked 80 years since the end of the Second World War, both these composers were involved, in different ways, in conflicts. Kodály, who was Hungarian, wrote his Missa Brevis while sheltering in the cellar of Budapest Opera House, following the invasion by the Red Army.

Tippett, a pacifist, wrote A Child of Our Time, as a response to atrocities such as Krystallnacht, and was later imprisoned as a Conscientious Objector.

Additionally, Duruflé wrote an organ solo, which will be played by Sam Hanson, as a tribute to his friend, Jehan Alain, a French soldier who died in action in 1940 aged just 29.

Tickets are available via TicketSource (see poster or website www.wimbornechoralsociety.org.uk), from Square Records in Wimborne High Street, by phoning 07802 589662, or on the door.

We do hope you will join us.
