💬 Out and about in Craigavon & Lurgan! 💬
Our Detached Youth Work Team have been out and about across Craigavon and Lurgan, catching up with young people and hearing how their first week back at school has been.

For some, it’s been an exciting start. For others, it’s brought worries, pressures, friendships, new routines and everything else that comes with navigating life as a teenager. 🎒

We’re here to offer advice, support, a friendly ear and sometimes, simply someone who will listen. 👂❤️

It’s easy to judge teenagers or focus on the challenges they can sometimes present. But behind every young person is someone trying to figure things out, find their place, make sense of the world and navigate life the best way they can.

Sometimes, all it takes is someone to stop, listen and remind them that they matter. 🙌

We’ll continue to be out in our communities, meeting young people where they are and letting them know that support is there when they need it.

🌧️ Rain or shine, DDYWP are out and about! 🌧️👟
Despite the rainy weather, our Detached Team were out and about across Lurgan Centre and North Lurgan tonight! ☔️💪

We covered Edward Street, Lurgan Town, Lurgan Park, North Street, Kilwilkie, North Lurgan Community Centre, Allen Hill Park, Victoria Street, and Shankill. 🚶‍♂️🌳🏘️

It was brilliant to see young people still out and about despite the weather! 🙌 We had some great chats about DDYWP groups, activities and getting back into the school routine 📚🎒.

Tonight’s team were out across Lurgan & Craigavon, catching this brilliant view along the way! 🙌

Great to chat with so many young people who were back at school this week. Surprisingly, plenty are actually looking forward to seeing what the year ahead has in store! 😄📚

🌟Celebrating Our Young People | PYDP 2024–2026

A fantastic evening at the Ashburn Hotel, Lurgan, as we celebrated the achievements of the young people who have participated in DDYWP’s Personal Youth Development Programme (PYDP), funded by the International Fund for Ireland (IFI).

Over the past two years, PYDP has provided young people with opportunities to develop new skills, build confidence and resilience, take on new challenges and realise their potential.

A particular highlight of the evening was hearing directly from Eoin, one of our PYDP participants, who spoke about his own journey and the impact the programme has had on him.

We were delighted to be joined by Anne Carr, IFI Board Member, and the Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Cllr Mary O’Dowd, and we were also grateful to receive a special video message from Junior Ministers Reilly and Bunting from The Executive Office.

The evening concluded with the presentation of certificates to our young people and an opportunity to recognise our brilliant PYDP team – Stephen, Grace and Noleen – for their commitment and dedication throughout the programme.

As PYDP 2024–2026 comes to an end, we are incredibly proud of what our young people have achieved and excited to see where they go next.

A huge thank you to the International Fund for Ireland for its investment in our young people and for making this programme possible.

👏 Most importantly, congratulations to every young person who has been part of the journey. Tonight was about you.

Our staff were out on detached tonight across the community, catching up with young people and checking in on how some of their first day back at school went 🎒📚

We also chatted about some of our upcoming programmes and opportunities, giving young people the chance to find out what's coming up and get involved 🙌

Later in the evening, we met up with our North Lurgan Senior Boys group and had some really positive conversations around school, plans for the year ahead, and what's coming up for the group.

It was great to see everyone, catch up with familiar faces, and hear what young people have planned for the months ahead! 🌟

🎒 SCHOOL’S NEARLY BACK… AND WE’RE HERE FOR YOU! 💙

A busy targeted detached session across North Lurgan this evening with lots of great engagements and conversations. 🙌

With school just around the corner, we’ve been chatting about returning, what that looks like and how everyone is feeling. We even met some new Year 8s heading to St Ronan’s College who are excited to start their new journey! 🎒📚

Transitions can be exciting but challenging too, and we’re here to support any young person who needs us — just reach out. 💬

For now, we’re getting some rest before another action-packed week! 😴 Enjoy your last few days before school returns.

🧠 BOYS TARGETED PROGRAMME | MENTAL HEALTH & WELLBEING 💬

A brilliant session today with a group from our NL Inters, as part of our Boys Targeted Programme.

Today we focused on mental health and what it means to us. The lads had the opportunity to bring something that represents them, share a little about themselves and explore what we can do when things aren’t going so well.

A big part of the session was recognising when we might need to talk, who we can turn to and understanding that asking for support is a strength. 💪

We finished the day with some well-earned fun at Airtastic Ultimate Challenges! 🙌

This is only the beginning. The group have identified a number of issue-based topics they want support with, and we’re looking forward to nurturing the programme around what they tell us matters to them.

⚽ ERA Football Tournament ⚽

A great day of football for our young people as DDYWP took part in the ERA Football Tournament, with two teams representing the project – Team 1 and Team 2.

👏 A brilliant effort from everyone involved, with Team 1 making it all the way to the final, where they were narrowly beaten by a strong ERA side.

We also had some fantastic individual achievements:

⚽ Rioghan – Top Goalscorer
🧤 Harry – Best Goalkeeper

A massive well done to both lads and to all our young people who represented DDYWP brilliantly throughout the tournament. 👏⚽
