John McAleese MM was a Scottish soldier who served in the British Army's Royal Engineers and the Special Air Service (SAS). He was known for his bravery and courage, particularly during the Iranian Embassy siege in 1980 and the Loughgall ambush in 1987.

Military Career: He served in various roles within the British Army, including as a member of the SAS.
Iranian Embassy Siege: He played a crucial role in the storming of the Iranian Embassy in London, which successfully ended a hostage crisis.
Loughgall Ambush: He was present during the Loughgall ambush, a significant event in the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
Military Medal: He was awarded the Military Medal (MM) for his bravery during the Loughgall ambush.
Bodyguard: He served as a bodyguard for three British Prime Ministers.
John McAleese's legacy continues to inspire and be remembered, particularly within the military community.

106 years ago today, the guns fell silent on the Western Front, and the Great War came to an end. For the men and women returning to Britain, it was time to build a “land fit for heroes”. For those left behind in French and Belgian soil, it was the first time to be Remembered. Over a century on, let us honour them again by continuing to remember the dead and support our veterans We will remember them.

Join AJEX at our flagship event on Sunday 17th November 2024
Register now and save the date to join AJEX at The Cenotaph where we will honour the thousands of Jewish servicemen and women who served for our Nation's freedom.

United as British Jews in pride and purpose, we march to Remember, to honour and to stand against antisemitism, shaping our future together. Veterans, individuals, families and community groups of all ages are welcome.

To secure your spot to march, please book your ticket(s) by Friday 8th November.

To support the Parade as a spectator from the East Whitehall Pavement, no booking required. Please allow enough time to arrive at the event as there will be a high level of security provided by CST and the Met Police.
