Northern Ireland Hen Rescue

Northern Ireland Hen Rescue At Northern Ireland Hen Rescue we rescue ex commercial laying hens at point of slaughter. We get them treatment they need before rehoming. Charity No.NIC104969

We also take in unwanted hens, other poultry and waterfowl. We rehab injured gulls and corvids. "SAVING ONE HEN WONT CHANGE THE WORLD, BUT IT WILL CHANGE THE WORLD FOR THAT ONE HEN"
Our aim is to rescue as many hens as we can from battery farms when they are culling. These hens will be placed in new homes where they will learn to be chickens, see daylight for the first time, stretch their wings fo

r the first time, feel solid ground under their feet and be able to sunbathe and dirtbath. All the things a hen SHOULD be able to do. Nut House Hen Rescue & Re-homing is the profile name for Northern Ireland Battery Hen Rescue

***URGENT RE RESCUE***

I’m sorry to say that the farmer has cancelled the rescue of the 70 hens that we were due to take in this week.
I understand that you will be disappointed as many of you were looking forward to getting your new ladies.
We can offer you some older hens, ones that we have taken in as no longer wanted. However we can’t guarantee that these ladies are still laying eggs. But, they will still make amazing pets and a fantastic addition to your flock.
If you are willing to take some slightly older ladies, please send me a WhatsApp on your original thread and we can try and facilitate as many as possible.
We will most likely not be in a position to get access to another farm until st least the autumn as work on our chicken area is due to start in the next month.

Edit
I have had 33 WhatsApp messages from people wanting hens and that is amazing.
However, of those 33 applications 21 of them did NOT contain the information that is asked for below.
There is only me monitoring the WhatsApp and having to reply 21 times to people asking them to follow the instructions in the post is taking up a lot of my time and my time is precious to me.
I have my hens here, and my other animals that I need to care for also.
So, when I ask you for something in these posts it would really help me if you could send the information requested. If you don’t have photos to hand, wait until you have some to send.
If you don’t have a flock registration number you can apply for one using this link

https://www.daera-ni.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2025-10/AIPM3%20Application%20for%20Flock%20Number%202025%20-%20Final%20PDF%20Version_0.PDF
I know you think it’s only one reply to you I have to do, but there are more people not sending the required info than those that do.
Please please pay a thought to my arthritic finger and terrible eyesight and don’t make me have to keep replying with “please send the info requested in the Facebook post”
My phone has been pinging all day. I’m home from the vets about an hour and I’ve been constantly having to ask for the info.
I try to have a life away from the rescue, but things like this make it even more difficult for me.

*** REALLY URGENT***

We can get 70 hens at the weekend but we need homes for them before we take them in.
As far as I’m aware they are 73 weeks old and going to have their necks pulled if we can’t take them.
Please if you have a space in your coop for a couple, please consider it. 2/3 extra hens in a flock isn’t going to be much different for you
If you can help please send a WhatsApp to 07973270133 with photos of your setup including your coop and your run and the area they will have free range to along with your flock registration number

Meet Stan and Ollie.
They came in this morning and are about 4 weeks old.
Ollie they think might have been got by a cat, so he’s straight on to antibiotics.
I’ve washed his wounds as best I can and applied Vetericyn
He’s lost quite a bit of his comb and the full damage to his head will only become clear as the scab lifts.
The whole time I was working with Ollie, Stan was crying out for him. God only knows what these two have been through in their short lives so far. But they are definitely bonded and Stan looks after Ollie

Meet Dave
He is last years hatch and abandoned most likely because he was fighting with another rooster.
He is in a terrible state and was obviously kept confined in some sort of filthy cage for a long period of time
He has ammonia burns along his keel from sitting in his own filth.
His chest feathers are broken away leaving him bare from what looks like he’s been rubbing against something. Around his neck he has broken feathers consistent with being kept in a small cage.
The front of his comb and the top of his nares are bloodied consistent with fighting through a wire cage.
It’s going take a lot of tlc to get this poor boy back into shape.

The more I know of humans the more I side with animals. I’m ashamed to be part of a race that can treat these beautiful creatures in such a terrible way .
Please check out our website to see how you can help us to help him.
