We’re really excited to share that, thanks to funding from The National Lottery - Awards For All Fund, we’re going to be launching a new community food-waste composting project this autumn 🪱

With new food-waste collections being introduced by local councils across the country, we’ve been thinking about what happens to all that food once it leaves our homes. Could we keep its nutrients in circulation and put them back into the soil right here in our community?

They still contain valuable organic matter and nutrients, and if those nutrients came from the soil in the first place, shouldn’t we be finding ways to return them to the soil?

What comes from the soil should return to the soil...

Our new hot- composter will allow us to take all food waste from local households and businesses and transform it into living-soil that can go back into our growing spaces, and yours too!

We want to keep those nutrients moving around our community, helping to build healthier soil systems, support our gardens and grow more food.

We’ll be sharing more about the project over the next few weeks, including how you can get involved as a member.

We’re so grateful to National Lottery players for helping us make this possible, something we've been dreaming of setting up for years!

We're very happy to have seen some rain this week! Our tanks are filling up, our autumn crops are very happy and the garden feels like its bouncing back after a long summer.

We picked peaches this morning ready to be made into jam 🌧️

Anyone else feeling the impact of the recent heatwaves and drought?

If you’ve been wondering what’s really going on with the weird weather and what we can do about it, one of our community gardeners are helping to organise a really great local event.

The People’s Emergency Briefing film is being shown again in Cotgrave, the first screening went down really well, so there’s a second one coming up.
It breaks down the challenges we’re facing with the climate and how we can come together to take action.

Friday 18th September at Cotgrave Methodist Church-
Doors open at 6:15 PM -starts 6:30 PM

The MudBugs have had so much fun feeding and learning about the worms in the wormery over the last few weeks (I can't blame them, I love them too!)

So in celebration of our wiggly friends we'll have lots of lovely worm themed activities tomorrow 🪱

We also have a very exciting new volunteer joining us from tomorrow, get your singing voices ready and put on your dancing shoes, ready for some sweet musical fun and join us to welcome our newest MudBug 🎶

We may have struggled to grow veg in this relentlessly dry summer but Monday mornings with the MudBugs always makes up for it!

Thanks to everyone who comes along to play, it's truly such a wonderful session and so great to see so many families getting together and enjoying spending time outside 🌻
