We need your help!
Plans are ramping up for the major works on the canal over winter, including but not limited to:
Rebuild of Lock 13
Dredging of the navigable part of the canal at Woolsthorpe
Vegetation clearance all along the canal.
We need many more volunteers to undertake these works, so if you have an interest in getting your hands dirty (sometimes very dirty!), please let us know if you can help with the following:
Dismantling Lock 13 – this needs a great deal of earth moving, all the brickwork taking down following a plan, and complete rebuild of the lock and associated structures. If we get enough volunteers there will be several workparties each week. Full training will be given on the job, but anyone with building experience would be invaluable.
Dredging will need a small, dedicated team to work with our experienced digger and dumper drivers to move the silt removed from the canal bed to an appropriate fenced area.
Following what has been in some cases a rampant growing year, particularly for vegetation using the remaining water in the canal, workparties will be operating all along the canal to remove w**d and self-set trees to allow better water flow in the coming years. Again if sufficient volunteers step forward, there may be several workparties each week.
Can you help out? We are a friendly and welcoming bunch so as well as helping to restore our beautiful canal you would have chance to make new friends as well. For mor details check out our website www.granthamcanal.org or contact [email protected].
