Sir David’s life has been dedicated to highlighting the fragility of ‘Planet Earth’s Natural World’, undoubtedly our modern day world’s Francis of Assisi (Patron Saint of Animals)

Amongst his most notable BBC Wildlife Documentary was ‘Dynasties’, an 8 part series which included the ‘life’s drama’s of a pack of ‘Painted Dog’s’ in Mana Pool’s National Park Zimbabwe, a must watch !!

Besides their natural enemies, Lions and Hyenas, man has added bigger threats. Speeding vehicles, the Poachers wire snare, diseases contracted from domestic dogs.

PDC-UK would like to thank photographer Ian Ford for this amazing detailed photo of ‘Painted Dogs’, taken at Savuti in Botswana.

Please ‘zoom in’ to appreciate their hazel coloured eyes, the profusion of external ear hair, and dappled coloured ‘coats’.

Their ‘Majesty’ is ‘second to none’, Africa’s apex predator !!

Dear PDC-UK ‘follower’s, did you know the Latin name for the African Wild Dog, aka > ‘Painted Dog’ / ‘Painted’ Wolf’ is Lycaon Pictus, translated, means, “Painted Wolf like Animal” !!

There can be no doubt as to why Lycaon Pictus was chosen. Imagine ‘mother nature’ a blank canvass, with four pots of paint > white, beige, brown & black. No brush strokes, just random splattering with a soft brush, simplistic but effective, stunningly beautiful !!

An Africa without these apex predators, less than seven thousand dog’s now survive, mainly due habitat loss, the poachers wire snare, and over a hundred years of persecution by falsehoods, treated as vermin !!??

PDC-UK a reg Charity has been raising funds for 26 years primarily supporting viable populations of wild dog’s through education. Please help us continue our mission by making a donation.

BREAKING NEWS !! PDC-UK is both sad and distraught at the news that two of last years Painted Dog puppies have been killed by a vehicle while crossing a busy highway.

Our thoughts go out not only to the Umkhonto pack who have lost valuable pack members, but also PDC’s men and women who for many months have wavered their own personal safety 24hrs a day in ensuring the dogs safely cross the busy highway.

PDC-UK would like to thank photographer Ian Ford for showing the ‘playful’ side of Africa’s top predator.
‘Painted Dog’s’ often engage in ‘pack bonding’, prior initiating a hunt.

‘Painted Dog’ numbers have decreased in number from 500,000 a century and a half ago to less than 7,000, making them Africa’s rarest ‘canine’.
