🗞️ HSBC has produced a report in partnership with Epilepsy Action that helps organisations across many sectors to create safe & accessible spaces for employees with photosensitive epilepsy, including investment in virtual training for the bank’s first aiders.

This is another great example of how financial services are investing in training, skills & knowledge that encourage greater inclusivity across the sector, whether that’s encouraging people with disabilities to participate more actively in financial services & investment, creating safe & accessible workplaces, or communicating more confidently with bereaved & vulnerable customers.

💰 City Hive’s report earlier this year into Financial Inclusion & Disability: Rebuilding Trust in Financial Services found that, following research, many disabled people face barriers to investment & savings, with many feeling that “investing is not for people like me”.

🗞️ Funerals in the news: Former funeral director sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment

Many of you will be aware that ex-funeral director Robert Bush was handed a 20-year jail sentence recently for preventing lawful burials, fraud & theft.

This case has prompted national conversations about regulation of the funeral industry, led by families affected by Bush’s crimes.

Back in May, the Department for Health & Social Care announced that it would be “taking the lead” in ensuring regulation is introduced “to protect families at their most vulnerable”. We’re watching closely for more news under PM Andy Burnham’s administration & will report on further announcements.

đź“– Totnes Library puts bereavement in the spotlight

Following Unlimited Libraries’ recent bereavement training with Dawn, we were thrilled to receive this photo of Totnes Library’s new book display focused on bereavement & dying.

Feedback from the team following our session has been incredibly positive, & it’s fantastic to see how our training inspires better communication about grief throughout our clients’ communities, whether professionally or personally.

Hopefully these books will help Totnes’ library users continue the conversation!

🗞️ Discussing direct cremation

There’s a lot of discussion about direct cremation at the moment, prompted by stories from bereaved families who have experienced this type of funeral.

Direct cremation takes place without any service or mourners present. It’s a cheaper option but means that families, friends & those close to the person who has died don’t come together to remember them.

This new Death: A Changing Industry podcast explores the rise in direct cremation & the role of funeral directors in education around this topic, ensuring those who are funeral planning & their families are aware of the choices available to them.
