This photo marks a very special moment. We were able to consistently practice over the last few weeks. Seeing confidence grow with the different tasks, better understanding of body language and how actions affect others as well as self-awareness and practising empathy. It has been very rewarding for everyone!

Here a participant is taking a moment to regulate his emotions. Asking for permission before embracing Toffee. Syncing his breathing and letting go of any tension. Finding relaxation and a centred neutral in both body and mind.

🐴What do you think Toffee is thinking in this moment?🐴

Happy Chinese New Year!… For us every year is the year of the Horse.

What the Year of the Horse means
The horse is revered in Chinese culture due to its long-standing roles in agriculture, transport, and warfare, says Jonathan H. X. Lee, Asian studies professor at San Francisco State University. However, in the Chinese zodiac, this galloping animal symbolizes strength, grace, endurance, loyalty, freedom, and success. Its strength, Lee explains, represents possibilities for personal growth and success.

According to Lee, this is exemplified by the Chinese idiom: When the horse arrives, success arrives. “The horse’s energy is associated with yang energy, which is active, dynamic, and life-generating, and speaks to ambition and vitality.”

In Chinese astrology, Horse years favor decisive action and independence, while also warning against impulsiveness.

*** REPORTING WELFARE CONCERNS ***

World Horse Welfare have asked if we (myself and you!) can help spread the word about exactly HOW and WHEN to report welfare cases.

The horribly wet winter combined with the hay shortage has sadly resulted in a huge surge in welfare cases. It is absolutely the right thing to do to report these cases to WHW, but only if you have seen them IN PERSON. Is there a dry area in that field with a big bale of hay that the photo you’ve seen on Facebook doesn’t show? Are the horses standing knee deep in mud by the gate only doing so because the public walk past and feed them there?

Multiple reports of the same welfare concern actually slows things down, rather than speeds things up; WHW still need to go through every single report, so 50 people contacting them about a post they’ve seen on SM is actually delaying the case being allocated to an officer. Same for the RSPCA. There is nothing wrong with posting photos on SM if you’re concerned, as sometimes a friend of the owner, or even the owner, can reassure people that there is hay away from the gate, but if you see a post please do not take part in mass reporting.

If you are concerned about a horse/horses that you have driven past/actually seen in person, then please report it immediately. Please don’t report cases you’ve seen on SM as this is currently delaying the time taken to get out and help the genuine welfare concerns.

Please share, and please also share to any posts where you see the OP encouraging everyone to report. I’ve put the WHW link in the comments.

This is our favourite part of the day.
No rush. No agenda. Just a horse, a brush, and time to connect.
Grooming is where trust can grow and where we can listen to the subtleties of what our horses are telling us. Where to groom and what kind of touch they prefer.

It’s simple. It’s quiet. And it matters more than people think.
