What a fantastic morning of football we had in Derwentside today, as we welcomed Men Together Chester-le-Street’s second team for what proved to be a memorable occasion for everyone involved.

On paper, the scoreline reads a comfortable win for the home side, but that tells only a small part of the story. Right from the first whistle, both sides played some really lovely, flowing football — passing crisply, moving well and showing great spirit. The visitors settled quickly and looked assured, creating chances and showing they were here to play their part in a proper contest.

Special praise must go to our friends from Chester-le-Street — this was their very first competitive match, and what an impressive debut they made. They held their own superbly, never let their heads drop, and fully deserved their goal on the day. It was wonderful to see them taking this step and doing it so well — hats off to every single one of you.

Both sets of keepers were absolutely outstanding too. The game saw some truly cracking saves at both ends — fine stops, brave blocks and sharp handling that kept the score far closer than it might have been at times. They were a credit to their teams and made sure everyone had to earn every goal.

Beyond the goals and the result, though, what shone through most was the spirit on show. It was brilliant to see so many men of different abilities out on the pitch together, playing for the joy of the game, encouraging one another and sharing nothing but support and respect.

This is exactly what Men Together is all about — more than a match, it’s community, friendship and looking out for each other.

⚽ MEN TOGETHER DERWENTSIDE FOOTBALL CLUB ⚽
From 10… to nearly 100
We started with just ten men, a simple idea, and a ball.
Now we stand at nearly a hundred strong — turning up every single week, not just to play football, but to laugh, to lift each other up, and to find the friends we never knew we needed.
For so many of us, it felt like there was nothing left to give. But here, together, we found something priceless: hope. Purpose. A place where we can walk onto that pitch and smile again.
This isn’t just a club. This is family. This is proof that when we stand together, we find more than a game — we find ourselves again.
Every hard day, every early start, every step along the way — it all pays off. Because the greatest sight isn’t the scoreline. It’s seeing a man who thought he had nothing left… playing with joy in his heart and a smile on his face.

We now have two sessions running on a Monday night running from Greenland school also running along side beamish football centre both 8-9 sessions.

We also have Fridays nights at Beamish Football Centre
We also have a session on a Sunday 7-8.
