‼️ STEPS FROM MARKET STREET TO TESCO ‼️

Clay Cross Parish Council have today received confirmation from the Clay Cross Store Manager that the works to repair the steps is due to start week commencing 8th June.

Please be aware that this access will be closed for a week whilst the works are completed.

Thank you to Tesco Clay Cross for keeping us informed so that we can pass this information on to our community.

Vandalism of the Willow Trees Around Meadow Farm Fishing Pond

On Monday morning we were contacted by Clay Cross Angling Association who informed us of the destruction/vandalism of Willow trees around Meadow Farm Fishing Pond in Kenning Park.

It is presumed the stems are being taken for Willow baskets, or similar, however this is not permitted and one of the trees, which was trimmed down 2 years ago to get it to tiller out, has been completely stripped of all growth. All the new shoots which were growing really well, have been completely removed and it will take years to recover. Those responsible have also chopped off the new willow stems which were planted last spring. Taking these stems is theft.

Please help us to look after our green space and share this information so that it reaches whoever is doing this, they may not realise the damage they are doing. Taking these stems undoes the good work of the Pond Bailiffs who take care of this area.

We have been made aware of a complaint made to our contractors who maintain Kenning Park.

The complainant claimed to be a member of the 'Parks Committee for Clay Cross Parish Council'. We have the complainants details and they are not part of Parish Council in any way.

If any member of the public has a complaint or compliment regarding any Parish Council asset, such as Kenning Park, please contact the Parish Council Office via the Parish Council's website

Parish Council Response to proposed New Local Plan

Clay Cross Parish Council are a consultee on planning applications within Clay Cross Parish and on informing the New Local Plan for North East Derbyshire.

The Parish Council has submitted its response to sites put forward under the draft New Local Plan, of which Coupe Lane is just one of the areas included on the draft which we do not want developed. Our Parish has seen more than its fair share of housing development for over a decade, adding to pressures on GP services, flooding, travel congestion, and more.

Clay Cross Parish Council remain strongly opposed to the proposed Coupe Lane development, and you can read the response submitted to the District Council regarding this planning application as well as responses opposing applications for the development going back to 2017 and 2019, which can be viewed via our website www.claycross.gov.uk/news/2026/05/parish-council-response-to-proposed-local-plan

Going forward, a New Local Plan must be created for North East Derbyshire which meets the Government-set housing targets for the next 20 years. This target means 600 new homes a year being built across North East Derbyshire. We think Clay Cross has seen enough and other more suitable areas should be prioritised in the plan.

💚 Jean Slater from St John Ambulance will be in attendance to provide instruction and hands-on demonstrations
🆓 This event is FREE to attend and is suitable for community volunteers and members of the public to gain or improve their first aid skills. Secondary School aged children welcome but they must be accompanied by an adult throughout
🥪 Please bring a packed lunch
