Looking to gain leadership experience and make a real impact in your community?

We're recruiting an Associate Trustee (Volunteer) to join Citizens Advice North East Derbyshire.

This 12-month development placement is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to learn how a charity is governed and gain valuable board-level experience. No previous trustee experience is needed, we'll provide support and guidance throughout.

We're particularly keen to hear from people aged under 35, who are often underrepresented in governance roles. However, we welcome applications from people of all ages and backgrounds.

What you'll gain:

✅ Experience in strategic leadership, governance and charity operations
✅ A Certificate of Completion
✅ A professional reference
✅ Flexible commitment – around 8 meetings a year (Clay Cross & online)
✅ All reasonable out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed

⚡ Energy bills: VAT cut announced ⚡

Good news for households worried about rising costs - the government has announced that VAT on electricity bills will be cut from 5% to 0% from 1 October 2026.

💷 What this means: it's expected to take around £45 off the average annual energy bill when the new Ofgem price cap comes in, on top of the £150 already removed at the last Budget.

Every bit of breathing space helps, but if you're still worried about affording your energy bills this winter, you don't have to manage alone. Our team can help you check you're on the best tariff, apply for extra support, and deal with your supplier if things get difficult. 🏠

🚨 Beware of doorstep scams 🚨

Not everyone who knocks at your door has good intentions. Scammers often claim there’s an urgent problem with your roof, driveway or gutters and pressure you into paying for unnecessary work.

⚠️ Watch out if someone:
🏠 Turns up uninvited offering repairs
💷 Asks for money upfront
🏦 Encourages you to withdraw cash
⚠️ “Finds” more problems and keeps asking for more money
🏛 Claims they’re working as part of a government scheme

✅ Stay safe by:
• Never agreeing to work or paying on the doorstep
• Taking time to speak to someone you trust
• Using reputable, recommended traders
• Checking a trader’s identity by contacting the company yourself

A genuine trader won’t pressure you into making an immediate decision.

If you think you’ve been targeted by a scam, contact the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 0808 223 1133 or Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040. If you’re in immediate danger, always call 999.
