2326 (Clay Cross) Squadron ATC

2326 (Clay Cross) Squadron ATC 2326 (Clay Cross) Squadron is a Royal Air Force Air Cadets unit, based in Clay Cross, Derbyshire The three aims of the Air Training Corps are:

1.

2326 (Clay Cross) Squadron is an Air Training Corps (Air Cadets) unit, based in Clay Cross, Derbyshire. The Air Training Corps is the RAF's cadet force, with more than 40,000 members aged between 12 (in year 8) and 20 years, attending 900+ Squadrons all over the UK. To promote and encourage among young men and women a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.
2. To provide training w

hich will be useful both in the Services and in civil life.
3. To encourage the spirit of adventure and to develop the qualities of leadership and good citizenship. We are not a recruiting organisation for the RAF but if you're thinking about a Service career, cadet membership will put you ahead of the competition. Many cadets go on to great success in the RAF (and the other Services). In fact: around 40% of officers and 50% of all aircrew (including pilots, navigators and engineers) in the RAF now are ex-cadets. Research shows that they do better in basic training and stay in the Service longer than their colleagues. Likewise, if you chose a civilian career our research proves you can go on the great things… employers just love the skills and experience that Air Cadets offer. Aged between 12 (in year 8) & 17? Up for something exciting, challenging and new? We're recruiting now!

We will take ANY child regardless, as long as they are aged 12 (in year 8) to 17.

Current year 11 children can register now for this September's intake.

All adults aged 20+ will be considered. They must pass DBS and security checks for working with children and satisfactorily complete all training.

The RAF Air Cadets offer young people exciting opportunities for personal and professional development.

Recruiting Slots Still Open 😀

After last week's successful mini intake, we now have over 50 Cadets on the books for the first time in ages.

We will keep the door open for another couple of weeks, but then the next intake will be the big one in September, mainly aimed at the new year 8 pupils.

Just a reminder that we take any young people aged 12 (in year 8) to 17, regardless.

If you are interested in aviation and want to join the UK's premier youth organisation, please get in touch. You won't regret it!

Promotion to Cadet Warrant Officer 🎉⁣

We are delighted to announce that Flight Sergeant Sophie Green has this evening been promoted to the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer, following a successful interview board with our Sector Commander, Sqn Ldr Pimborough.⁣

Cadet Warrant Officer is the highest rank a cadet can achieve in Royal Air Force Air Cadets and represents the culmination of years of dedication, leadership, and commitment to the organisation.⁣

Sophie has been an outstanding member of the Squadron throughout her cadet career, consistently demonstrating the highest standards and serving as an excellent role model to younger cadets.⁣

This promotion is thoroughly well deserved and we are extremely proud to see her reach the pinnacle of the cadet ranks.⁣

Congratulations, CWO Green!

RAF Waddington Visit 19Feb26

On Thursday, 7 Cadets and 3 Staff had an interesting visit to various parts of the base.

What we saw was inevitably limited by the secret nature of the work carried out there and operational availability.

Highlights for me were morning coffee and pancakes with the base Padres and the 51 Squadron "Rivet Joint" presentation by 2 very enthusiastic crew members.

The last stop on the tour was for a look at recently refurbished Avro Vulcan XM607, immortalised as the one that first bombed Stanley airfield on Operation Blackbuck 1, during the 1982 Falklands conflict.

Looking superb in the afternoon drizzle, the Vulcan is unfortunately no longer displayed near the public viewing area.

Of personal interest to me was the fact that the pilot on Op Blackbuck 1 was none other than Flt Lt Martin Withers, who taught me to fly the Jet Provost at RAF Linton On Ouse and RAF Elvington back in 1980.

Martin was later the lead display pilot of Vulcan XM588 of the Vulcan To The Sky Trust out of the former RAF Finningley.

The lower image shows Martin (Centre) with the crew of XM607 on their return from their record breaking mission.
