Clay Cross Foodbank

Clay Cross Foodbank Clay Cross Foodbank will engage the whole community in providing much needed support to those in crisis in our community.

Clay Cross Foodbank is built on Christian values of compassion, integrity and commitment. Our church based foodbank will engage the whole community in providing food to local people going hungry. The foodbank will store food donated by the community, and will distribute to people in crisis. It is a simple and unique concept designed to help individuals and families by providing free emergency food

for three days (10 balanced meals). Three days is the period assessed as the time it takes for the appropriate agencies to be in a position to assist. Clay Cross Foodbank will collect food from the public at supermarkets, from churches and through local groups and schools. Food is drawn as a result of referrals from registered Care Professionals such as Social Services, Health Visitors, Probation Officers, Church Pastoral Workers, schools and others working in the front line of poverty. Vouchers redeemable at the foodbank allow clients to exchange their voucher for 3 days of tinned and dry food for their family. This is our preferred way because it enables the Foodbank Team to offer them a safe non-judgmental place in which to sit and be heard, and to find out about possible areas of help can be offered in order to break the poverty cycle. The foodbank will also support socially disadvantaged or vulnerable people by offering placements to work in the community on a number of levels, whatever their physical or mental condition. Overall Clay Cross Foodbank will show the needs in the community, engage the public in solving those needs and through the referral system break this cycle of poverty.
Our vision is for the end of the need of Foodbanks as people start being support themselves. We want to see the end of UK hunger and we strive towards our part in helping this happen. We know it is unlikely short term to see this. We can aim for it to return to crisis foodbank

Donations of food, pet food, toiletries and cleaning products can be donated at our sessions. Money donations can made at sessions or via https://www.peoplesfundraising.com/donation/clay-cross-foodbank

If you shop at Tesco in Clay Cross or Holmewood you can support us for free by giving us your blue tokens.

This will help us keep providing food support for around 2,000 households in the local area and access to our financial inclusion programme that we run with citizens advice that provided an income boost of over £500,000 for our users last year, managed nearly £100,000 of debt for them and helped them get £25,000 of debt written off.

We recently visited 1st Tupton Cubs. The Cubs showed a huge amount of understanding and empathy for the vulnerable in our community. They also made thank you bookmarks and cards for our volunteers for all the time they give and kindness they show. They all brought in generous donations too! It was a joy to spend time with them all! Thank you for your support 1st Tupton Cubs!
