We were really moved by the recent post from our friends at Community Voluntary Services Tendring, highlighting how loneliness can affect anyone and how important connection and community truly are.

For carers, this can be a real issue. Supporting someone else often means putting your own needs to one side, and that can lead to feeling isolated.

Having the right support and opportunities to connect with others can make a real difference.

If you’re a carer and this resonates with you, you’re not alone. We’re here to help. https://www.essexcarerssupport.org.uk/contact

If you spend your time looking after someone else, a partner, family member or friend it’s easy to put your own needs to the bottom of the list.

But your wellbeing matters too. Taking time to rest, talk, recharge or ask for help isn’t selfish... it’s essential.

You don’t have to do everything on your own. Essex Carers Support is here to listen, guide and support you whatever your situation.

Carer friendly communities can exist anywhere carers live, work, study or spend time. Even small changes can make a big difference to carers’ daily lives. This Carers Week, Essex Carers Support will be highlighting the different ways services, organisations and communities can help carers feel recognised and supported.

Community groups, sports clubs and faith organisations can all help carers feel more connected. A warm welcome, inclusive activities and an understanding of carers’ needs can reduce isolation and build stronger local networks. Together, we can create communities where carers feel seen and supported. Essex Carers Support run a number of carer support groups locally – why not see if there’s one near you? https://www.essexcarerssupport.org.uk/self-care-for-carers-support-groups

We believe that, with the right support, all Young Carers should have the same opportunities in life as other children, whether in education, training and employment or socially. Schools, colleges and universities can help young and young adult carers thrive by spotting when support is needed and putting the right help in place.

Our partners at Action For Family Carers can provide practical support such as talking to schools so teachers can better understand young carers situation in West Essex (Harlow, Uttlesford, Epping districts), Northeast Essex (Colchester or Tendring districts) or Mid Essex (Braintree, Maldon, Chelmsford districts). https://affc.org.uk/services/young-carers/young-carer-school-service/

We are grateful to St Osyth Priory and Parish Trust for hosting a group of local carers to enjoy a moment of rest and reflection in such a beautiful setting.
