Do you know the true scale of baby loss? Every day in the UK, 13 babies die shortly before, during or soon after birth. That’s more than 4,000 babies a year that bereaved parents and families didn’t get to bring home.

We know that the true scale of baby loss is much bigger than this because there are many more families affected by other types of pregnancy and baby loss and TFMR (Termination for Medical Reasons) for which there is no comprehensive publicly available data across the UK.

Sadly, many families don’t know where to turn to for support when they experience a pregnancy or baby loss and this is why it is so important to raise awareness.

We are Sands, the UK’s leading pregnancy and baby loss charity, and we are working to save babies’ lives and ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the care and support they need.

Right now, millions of families are coming together to watch the World Cup, but every day in the UK 13 babies die shortly before, during or soon after birth. That’s 13 families every day experiencing the heartbreak of never being able to bring their baby home to enjoy a family moment together like this.

And that’s before we think about the thousands of families experiencing other types of pregnancy and baby loss and TFMR (Termination for Medical Reasons) for which there is no comprehensive publicly available data across the UK.

But where do they turn to for support?

We are the UK’s leading pregnancy and baby loss charity. We are working to save babies’ lives and ensure that every parent and every family receive the care and support they need when the worst does happen.

As Father’s Day is approaching, we want to acknowledge the many dads who will be finding this occasion difficult. We know that this day can be hard to manage when you have experienced pregnancy or baby loss.

You will always be their dad 💜🧡

Please know that our support is here for you.

Thank you to Ellie's dad, Andy for sharing his thoughts...

"Guys are meant to be tough, the strong one, alpha… but dads need people around them too. Losing a baby really affects your mental health and some days you do feel alone. It’s a horrible feeling watching folk get on with life, and I’d like to see more groups for dads and even couples to share grief and support."

It's Volunteers' Week, and we're sharing the stories of our amazing Sands volunteers across the U.K and the impact they have in their communities 💜🧡

Frances, Bereaved mum and Sands volunteer shared with us how she found meaning out of something 'truly awful'.

Alongside Befriending, Frances is also a volunteer gardener at Bath Sands Garden of Reflection, a beautiful space given to Bath Sands by Haycombe Cemetery, for families to visit, together or individually, to reflect, remember and sit with their babies or each other 🌺

“It’s a lovely space if people don’t want to attend our usual support meetings. Being outside is an excellent tonic for grief and mental health struggles and the garden’s a positive, joyful place for Bath Sands to be associated with. It’s a place of love and beauty."
