Cobnor Activities Centre, near Chichester, West Sussex, is located within Chichester Harbour.

⛵ Sailing, paddlesports, and land-based activities for all ages

🌱 Charity dedicated to youth development and personal growth through outdoor experiences This beautiful spot is easily accessible by road and lends itself to the range of activities and outdoor courses that we have on offer. Although we are specialists in RYA sailing courses and powerboat courses, BCU canoeing and kayaking courses and British Cycling mountain bike courses, the Centre is not just about outdoor adventure activities. Schools, colleges and universities throughout the UK use us for outdoor education courses. Our aims are:

* To help educate young people, to develop their physical, mental and spiritual capacities so that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society and that their conditions of life may be improved.

* To give young people in the local area the opportunity to experience challenging outdoor activities, both water and land based. As a result, around 30,000 sessions involving young people from over 60 schools, youth groups and individuals are carried out at Cobnor Activities Centre every year, and around 400 of these individuals are disabled or disadvantaged.

From the ground, the climbing wall looked okay.

Halfway up, it suddenly felt a lot higher.

But she kept going. And afterwards? She felt great.

Not simply reaching the top, but discovering something about yourself on the way.

The people at CACT see the small changes that can mean a great deal.

So over the coming months, we’re asking the team one simple question:
‘What change do you love seeing in someone during their time at CACT?’

We’re starting with Tom, our Centre Manager.

Because often, the best way to understand the impact of CACT is to hear from the people who see it happening every day.

Each year, CACT works with more than 4,000 young people and it’s our team who make that impact possible.

Today, we’re saying goodbye to Owen, whose last day at Cobnor is today. Over the past six seasons, he’s played a huge part in delivering activities, developing new pathways and initiatives, and helping more young people access the outdoors. If you’ve visited CACT since 2021, there’s a good chance you’ve met Owen and he’ll have made a difference to young people and adults alike.

Now he’s off to travel the world, explore all four corners and, no doubt, sample plenty of delicious snacks along the way!

Owen, thank you for everything you’ve brought to CACT. Please join us in wishing him the very best for his travels and whatever comes next!

Think CACT is only for outdoorsy types?

The ones who already know their knots, own all the gear and somehow look confident in a wetsuit?

Not quite!

You don’t have to arrive adventurous, experienced or even convinced it’s your thing. You just have to be willing to give it a go. The rest can happen from there.

You can come as you are, take things at your own pace and find what feels right for you.

CACT isn’t run as a commercial activity centre. We’re a charity, with a much bigger purpose than simply filling courses.

Every booking helps us continue creating opportunities that can have a lasting impact on young people’s lives.

So when you spend a day here, you’re helping make another day here possible for someone else.

There may only be one Cobnor Activities Centre. But the impact of what happens here can travel much further.

🎉 We celebrated 30 years of CACT as a registered charity.
👑 Tom and Owen proudly represented us at Buckingham Palace.
💙 Hundreds of young people and adults joined us for sailing, adventure, learning and unforgettable experiences.
🌊 A heatwave made for brilliant days on the water.

So many milestones, memories and moments that showed exactly why CACT makes such a difference.

What does the start of a career in the outdoors look like?

We recently welcomed potential apprentices to CACT for a taster day, giving them the chance to experience life at the centre and meet the people they could be learning alongside.

Our Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprenticeship is all about learning by doing, building real experience and developing the skills and qualifications for a career in the outdoor industry.

For the right person, the usual 9-5 was never going to be the plan anyway.
