Great to see St Peter’s Square a hive of activity for Emsworth Market Day with Hampshire Farmers’ Markets UK bringing fantastic local produce and the people behind it into the heart of our town. 🥕🧀

There’s also Emsworth’s Eco Fair taking place at both sailing clubs today, so plenty to explore. With a beautiful, crisp day outside, wrap up warm, pop into our independent shops and cafés, and enjoy everything our lovely harbour town has to offer!

60 YEARS ON EMSWORTH HIGH STREET 🥕🍎🥦

What an achievement R. A. Tier & Son celebrating its Diamond Jubilee, 1966–2026.

There’s something very special about an independent High Street and 60 years of R. A. Tier & Son serving Emsworth is testament to exactly why they matter.

Ray Tier came from a long-established Emsworth family and, after retiring as a professional golf caddy, took over the greengrocer’s with his wife Josie in 1966. Sixty years later, the business is still in the family, now run by their daughter Sarah Long, her family and a dedicated local team.

That’s 60 years of serving Emsworth, creating local jobs, adapting with the times and being part of the fabric of our town.

And shopping locally really does make a difference. Research cited by the Federation of Small Businesses found that around 63p of every £1 spent with an SME is re-spent locally, compared with around 40p with a larger business. Other studies have found independent retailers can return more than three times as much money to the local economy as chain competitors.

That money pays local wages. It supports other local suppliers. It creates jobs. It gets spent with local farmers , in our pubs, cafés, shops and businesses. That’s the local pound going round.

You can buy fruit and veg in plenty of places, but at Tier’s there’s a real emphasis on buying local and seasonal wherever possible supporting local farmers & growers, putting great British produce first. And what you simply can’t replicate is 60 years of relationships, personal service, family history and being at the heart of the Emsworth community.

Snow gently falling across the village this morning — magical to see, but please take extra care on the roads and pavements.
