πŸš£β€β™‚οΈπŸŒŸ What a Fantastic Day at the District Rowing Regatta! πŸŒŸπŸš£β€β™€οΈ
Last Sunday (14th June), our cadets hit the water for the District Rowing Regatta – or β€œPulling,” as it’s proudly known in Royal Navy tradition – and what a day it turned out to be!
πŸ’₯ We are incredibly proud to have entered THREE full teams into the Trinity 500 event all made up entirely of our own cadets. That’s a huge achievement and – more than any other unit in the district except Medway Towns (TS Cornwallis), a real testament to the strength of TS Temeraire!
πŸ‘ A special highlight was seeing our girls back competing – fantastic determination from the team, who stepped up to race in the Under 18 category and took on older crews with real grit and spirit.
β˜€οΈ The day itself couldn’t have been better – brilliantly organised by CPO Bass and overseen by LT Challis, with perfect weather and an amazing atmosphere throughout. Across the whole West Kent District, cadets showed outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and encouragement – it was fantastic to see πŸ‘
πŸ… And the results:
πŸ₯‡ Under 15 Boys – 1st Place!
➑️ Heading to Area in July to represent the District – good luck lads!
πŸ’ͺ Under 18 Boys – 4th Place
After a tough first race against the eventual winners, they were automatically in the bottom half, but fought back brilliantly to top that group
πŸ‘ Under 18 Girls – 6th Overall
A superb effort in a challenging category – you did us proud!
With 11 units competing, these results are something to celebrate!
πŸŽ‰ Huge congratulations to all our cadets – TS Temeraire, you smashed it!
And the very best of luck to our Under 15 crew as they go on to the next stage – we’ll all be cheering you on!

πŸ’™ Volunteer Week Spotlight πŸ’™

Meet CPO (SCC) Beth Ballantyne-Frost, Area Staff Officer (Physical Training) – Southern Area.

❓ Why did you choose to become a volunteer?
β€œAs a cadet, Sea Cadets helped me gain confidence and gave me a place where I thrived. That inspired me to stay on and help provide today’s cadets with the same opportunities, support, and encouragement.”

❓ What do you enjoy most about being a volunteer?
β€œI enjoy instructing and sharing my knowledge and passion with cadets, encouraging them to challenge themselves and try new things.”

❓ What’s the most rewarding part of your role?
β€œWatching cadets grow in confidence, discover something they love, and achieve things they never thought possible is incredibly rewarding. I also enjoy helping create a positive environment at my local unit where cadets can learn new skills and make the most of their Sea Cadet journey.”

❓ Can you share one volunteer moment that stayed with you?
β€œOne moment that has stayed with me was watching a cadet progress through the ranks, gain qualifications, and eventually join the Royal Navy. Being invited to attend her pass-out parade was a moment I’ll always be proud of.”

❓ What has volunteering taught you?
β€œVolunteering has taught me resilience, confidence, leadership, and communication skills. It has helped me grow both personally and professionally and given me the confidence to work with people from all backgrounds.”

❓ What would you say to someone thinking about volunteering?
β€œI would encourage anyone thinking about volunteering to give it a try. It’s incredibly rewarding, helps you develop new skills and friendships, and gives you a real sense of pride knowing you are making a positive difference to young people.”

Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers supporting cadets across the country this Volunteer Week. πŸ‘

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Temeraire Cadets Visit HMS Belfast for D‑Day Anniversary πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§
On Saturday 6th June, marking the anniversary of the start of the D‑Day landings, 16 adventurous Temeraires travelled by train to London to visit HMS Belfast and take part in the National Big Help Out campaign.
It was a truly fantastic day for all involved. The cadets enjoyed a thorough tour of the ship, an engaging fireside chat with a veteran, and the opportunity to contribute to a community project.
A particularly powerful aspect of the visit was how the experience followed the events of Tuesday 6th June 1944 in real time. As the cadets moved through the ship, they were kept up to date with what was happening at that exact point during D‑Day – from operational decisions to orders being issued, such as changes to the targeting of the 6-inch guns. This really brought history to life.
Afterwards, we were incredibly fortunate and honoured to be invited aboard HMCS William Hall, which was moored alongside HMS Belfast. The Royal Canadian Navy crew lived up to their reputation – exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer the many questions from our cadets.
A huge thank you to the RCN for their hospitality, and to the IWM and MSSC for providing such a memorable experience aboard HMS Belfast.
This was a trip the cadets will remember for a very long time – one that connected them with the past, inspired them in the present, and will help shape their future.
