Community Energy: How Can Renewable Energy Build Stronger Communities

This one hour session is about how renewable energy can help to build stronger communities.
Join us for this lunchtime learning session to see how renewable energy could help to support communities, and hear the story of a pioneering community energy project in Scotland.
Welcome our speakers for a 1-hour webinar-style presentation, listen in with your lunch and ask our panel questions for a short discussion.

For this session, we are joined by Cameron Duff, the Energy Development Lead here at FEL Scotland. Cameron is working on a project called Future Power, which is exploring how a more connected, regional approach to renewable energy could help share long-term benefits with local communities across the Forth Valley.

We are also joined by Robert Allan, the Operational Director at Callander Community Hydro. The hydro scheme, operated by the Callander Community Development Trust, generates renewable electricity to create income, which is reinvested into grants and projects to support the long-term development of the community.

An Update on the Callander Old Primary School Project.

After careful investigation through an independent feasibility study, Callander Community Development Trust has taken the difficult decision not to proceed with plans to convert the old Primary School into a Community, Arts, Education and Training Centre.

We know this will be disappointing news for many, and we don't take it lightly. But the Trust would not want to take on a project that could later become a financial burden to the Callander community, due to the ongoing costs of keeping the building running and operational.

We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey- Callander Community Council, Stirling Council, our Architects, our funders, etc, our volunteers , and of course the many members of the Callander community who shared their views, ideas and support throughout the process.

If you'd like more information, please get in touch via Callander Connect, where Margot, our Operations Manager, will be happy to speak with you.
