Tomorrow is shaping up to be a whirlwind.
Siobhan and Hannah are running kiltmaking sessions — one for veterans, one for our amazing Saturday Club — while I’ll be over at Edinburgh Napier University for the Scotland's Veterans Wellbeing Big Day Out.

New trustee Lynn and I will be in the Chapel crafting tartan hearts with everyone who stops by, using tartans the soldiers know well… plus a surprise one they’ve never seen before.

Big day, big energy, big hearts. ❤️

Delighted to announce that two new trustees joined us today — and they’re both fantastic kiltmakers.
We’re thrilled to welcome Lynn McCormack, a retired senior nurse and fantastic kiltmaker, and Siobhan Schulberg, our kiltmaking headteacher who has trained many of Scotland’s next generation of artisans, including founder Jo and her daughter, and is currently working with both our Saturday Club group and our mums & under 5s group.

We’re so excited to have their skill, leadership, and passion shaping our future and are really looking forward to what comes next!

Could traditional Scottish kiltmaking become a skill for the next generation?

At Làmhan, we’re exploring how traditional kiltmaking and textile heritage skills can be preserved, taught and passed on across Scotland.

We’re particularly interested in hearing from:
• Young people
• Parents and carers
• Teachers and educators
• Textile and fashion enthusiasts
• Heritage supporters
• Anyone interested in Scottish culture and traditional crafts

We’re also exploring interest in more structured learning opportunities, including the SVQ in Kiltmaking.

If you have 2–3 minutes to spare, we’d be grateful if you could complete our short survey:

Please share with anyone who may be interested. Every response helps us build a clearer picture of how these valuable skills can be safeguarded for future generations.

Traditional Scottish kiltmaking is a remarkable craft, but like many heritage skills it faces an uncertain future unless new people have opportunities to learn.

At Làmhan, we’re exploring how traditional kiltmaking and textile heritage skills can be preserved and passed on to future generations. As part of this work, we’re gathering information about interest in learning these skills, from introductory workshops through to the SVQ in Kiltmaking.

Whether you’re a young person considering future opportunities, a parent, teacher, textile enthusiast, heritage supporter, or simply someone who values Scotland’s traditional crafts, we’d love to hear from you.

The survey takes just a few minutes to complete:

Please feel free to share with anyone who may be interested, particularly schools, youth groups, heritage organisations, textile communities, and those with an interest in Scottish culture and traditional skills.

Thank you for helping us understand how these important skills can be kept alive for future generations 🙂

Làmhan is exploring ways to preserve and pass on traditional Scottish kiltmaking and textile heritage skills. We are gathering information to help shape future projects, training opportunities and funding applications. This survey should take no more than 3 minutes to complete.

On behalf of the entire community, please go and watch this programme. I've had every treatment going, including hysterectomy, and still it comes back.

Sadly we will be leaving Callander at the end of next month. The studio in Callander will be available to let from 1st August. It can be used as a shop or an office. It’s just over 60 m2, has had a new kitchen and electrics refurbished since we moved in last year.

If anyone is interested in renting the studio/shop, then please contact the owner Anne MacArthur at [email protected]. You will find plenty of photos of the space on our page here.

We will be having a leaving sale of almost everything in the space from the end of June, details will be shared on our page.

We’re launching a brand new series of short videos on YouTube — and they’re completely free for anyone to watch.

What makes this series special is that every tutorial is designed for right‑handed and left‑handed people. No more left‑handed learners being expected to mentally flip instructions or struggle through mirrored movements. As a left‑handed maker myself, I feel pretty strongly about this — learning should feel natural, not like an extra puzzle to solve.

These videos are the start of a growing library of accessible, inclusive kiltmaking resources. We’ll be adding more over time, building up a catalogue of genuinely useful skills that anyone can learn from, wherever you are.

If you’d like to follow along as we release new content, give us a wee follow — we’d love to have you with us!

Three‑year‑old T has been coming to the Làmhan studio with his mum and baby brother for a couple of months now… and this week, he made a big decision. He didn’t want to just watch the grown‑ups sew anymore — he wanted to join in.

So T is now proudly making a tiny kilt for his teddy bear, Leo. He chose the fabric, is sewing the pleats, and told us very seriously that Leo wants a kilt like him

Moments like this stop me in my tracks. This is what heritage craft looks like when it’s alive — when it’s shared, loved, and passed on with joy.

At Làmhan, we talk a lot about social impact, but sometimes it looks as simple and powerful as this: a three‑year‑old discovering confidence, creativity and belonging through making. A mum finding a space where her children are welcomed, not excluded, and where she has a bit of time for herself too

A warm welcome to our second group of veterans starting their kiltmaking course at the ASH Museum at Stirling Castle today.
I’m tired, but so happy — every session shows how heritage craft can build skills, connection, and wellbeing.
Grateful to be doing this work again in such a special place.

Yesterday I went on an excellent training course with in Wales. It was some trek down (aided by Ryan book 21 on Audible and a can of Red Bull) and I hadn’t had much sleep but everything was accessible and the tutor Jamie was amazing. I cannot recommend training with his CIC highly enough, especially for veterans-related work and insight. I met some amazing Welsh veterans yesterday, including Jake from (who gives the best hugs, or should I say cwtches?!). It’s been years since I’ve been in the land of my ancestors (my nan was Welsh) and it feels like being home! Welsh people rock :-) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 ❤️
