Spent the afternoon and some of this evening on admin tasks for the next cohort of Kiltmaking for Veterans, and thought a quick blogpost on the first cohort (almost completed their kilts) would be timely.

Really proud of the lads and how far they’ve come already, and really looking forward to meeting our next group of veterans next week

A rather different post from us today! We went over to the excellent exhibition of costumes at in Edinburgh. It was truly a wonderful experience, and I think I’m right in saying it’s the first time Outlander costumes have been on public display in their country of manufacture. I strongly suspect it will be the last time I see them in person again as I imagine they’ll be snapped up by a private collector (whoever buys them, I hope they stay together). Outlander is where my academic interest in historical clothing comes from, and I’ll forever be grateful to for creating this world for us all to escape to when reality is a bit too much. I think I might go and watch a few episodes of season 1 tonight (which will forever be my favourite).

Less than three weeks left to apply for one of three heritage crafts training bursaries of up to £4,000 for former British military personnel whose talent might otherwise be lost to the sector due to the high costs of training and other barriers.

The bursaries are supported by the Royal British Legion, recognising the need for gainful employment utilising a range of practical skills gained through military service, along with the mental wellbeing benefits of such employment.

Applicants are invited to propose training that is tailored to their needs, whether institution-based courses or one-to-one workplace-based training, accredited or non-accredited.

Other bursaries are also currently open for application.

➡️ Apply now via the linktr.ee in our bio or directly at https://heritagecrafts.org.uk/opportunities/training-bursaries/

📅 Deadline: 5pm, Friday 12 June.

Lovely to see our Jock, one of our veterans and pipers on our Kiltmaking course, and his son Carter piping at today’s event. Carter is a very impressive young man and we expect to see him going places!

We’re very sorry to announce that Làmhan has been unsuccessful in our bid for the former St Kessog’s Church.

Despite the huge effort put into the proposal, Stirling Council chose another direction. We know one competing bid came from a property developer, though the second bidder is still unknown.

We sincerely hope that the eventual buyer keeps the building in community use for Callander’s community and visitors.

We are recruiting new board members to help us take forward the next stage of Làmhan’s development. It only requires a few hours every month and could make a real difference to everyone involved. We are particularly keen to talk to Scottish

A huge day for our Kiltmaking for Veterans team!

We were delighted to host Major General Robin Lindsay, Scotland’s highest‑ranking military officer, and his wife Caroline at the ASH Museum.

From the SCOTS Veterans Pipe Band playing at the door, to a brilliant tour with Major (Retd) Alan Carmichael, to lunch in the Colours Room, the whole visit was a celebration of craft, culture, and community.

Proud to showcase our bespoke 100% Scottish Lochcarron tartan and the incredible veterans who are transforming it into kilts that honour Scottish veterans

We would like to publicly thank Debra Brown Johnson for her very generous donation of £50 towards our Kiltmaking for Veterans project. We are going to be putting this money towards our next roll of bespoke tartan 🙂

You too can donate towards the project at https://ko-fi.com/Lamhan_scotland.
