Independent Volunteer Group, assisting the Park Rangers to help maintain and promote the beautiful Bryngarw Country Park in the Garw Valley, Bridgend.

News of Volunteer Sessions and other events at the Park. The volunteer programme has been going since 2005 and has gone from strength to strength, with members of the local community donating their time and efforts to support preserving the park’s natural environment. We meet on the first Saturday of the month. The work is very rewarding and a great way to learn new skills, keep fit and socialise,

LAST MINUTE INVITE!! 🌱🌱🌱🌱
🌼🌼 SATURDAY 20th JUNE 🌼🌼
We decided to hold an extra balsam bashing session at Bryngarw Park, but I totally forgot to advertise it! 😬

If anyone would like to join me, I will be there from 10am outside the café. Please bring gloves, a drink and consider a hat as it looks like a sunny, warm day tomorrow. As always, wear sturdy shoes and suitable clothing as balsam always grows along with brambles and nettles.

June is a special month for UK bumblebees – the Big Eight are joined by more of our rare and less common species 💛

👑 This month, most of these rare and less common queens will produce their first daughters – the workers 💼

🎱 For the Big Eight, many queens and their worker daughters will be joined by new males 🚹

What bumblebees have you spotted recently? How many species have you seen so far this year?

Thanks you lovely people! 🌧 A great effort all round from the volunteers in very soggy conditions.

We're fighting a battle to keep the meadows clear of bracken, balsam and brambles 🌿🌱🌿🌱🌿 to enjoy the orchids coming through 🌷🌷🌷

Just a perfect day ☀️ Thanks to all the lovely people who came along to tidy up the Nature Garden, sharpen tools, master the bow drill, look for bugs and bees and generally have a great time.

*Sat 9th May* is our next volunteering session! Everyone is welcome🪻🪻🪻We will be working in the Nature Garden and if the weather is right we can sit around a campfire 🔥

We meet @ 10am outside the Bryngarw café - bring gloves and a drink. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. We generally have a break for lunch if you want to bring something. Under 16s need to bring an adult 🌿

Great work from the Volunteers! Saturday was bramble clearance and cutting back saplings to create some deadhedging.
Dead hedges are a great boost to biodiversity - insects, birds and small mammals - and they look fab! 🌿🦎🐛🪲🐦
