I make no apologies for the Forum being quiet for a while, the time though is right to bring things together.
My thanks must go to all of you who took the time to let BCP know how you felt, from the results it would be very easy to say that we have got what we wanted. We won’t be getting a Community Council for Southbourne, Tuckton, Wick & Hengistbury Head.
At the full council meeting this week our elected councillors came to a Democratic decision with all councillors voting after a lengthy debate.
After many hours the final proposal to create a Bournemouth Town Council was voted on & this was carried by a slim margin of 3% (51% to 48%) & this now means that Bournemouth Town council will come into being next year.
It is still early days but it seems that Southbourne will be well represented on this council with perhaps 2 councillors & I can speak on behalf of all of the Lead Team of The Forum that we will continue to champion events in the community, continue to work closely with our neighbours in Boscombe & also Coastal Bid who do so much to help our Grove to be the vibrant heart of our community.
I appeal to residents to engage now so that their opinions can shape the future. Social media is fine but it doesn’t replace having your say in person and putting yourself forward and getting involved.
To me this is a time when The Forum needs to continue the work that it has been doing in the past, the lead team has grown by some 5-6 people but we would welcome more to become involved. There will be an AGM in November & it would be great to see many of you there.
Facebook is an amazing communication tool, so I’m going to ask politely that you don’t voice your annoyance at what has happened, it’s happened, we now need to move forward. Our Community is special, we have so many special people who want to see the community thrive.
Southbourne has again been voted in the top 10 places to live in the UK & we must champion the area not bad mouth it.
One example of the community coming together is the Halloween Pumpkins, Southbourne is now lauded thanks to the involvement of people in the community, this is happening soon, get involved rather than sit behind a keyboard.
Please please please do not take your frustration out on this post but think about how you might be able to help make the community even better than it already is.
