Calling all girls aged 13 to 18 who are curious about what a future in aerospace and defence could look like!!

We’re excited to invite you to a Girls in Aviation Day at the AirTanker Hub, RAF Brize Norton on Saturday 19 September and applications are now open!

On the day, you will:
✈️ Step inside a real aviation environment at the AirTanker Hub
✈️ Take part in hands-on activities and team challenges
✈️ Get closer to aircraft and explore how they work
✈️ Experience how flight planning and operations come together
✈️ See how different skills and interests link to real careers

Too many young people rule out careers before they have had the chance to see what they involve. Giving girls access to real environments and experiences helps change that.

Camp VIKING II - Gold Fieldcraft Course!

At late notice, we have approval to deliver a Gold Fieldcraft course as part of Camp Viking II, for cadets who meet the criteria!

The Gold Fieldcraft syllabus is designed to produce Cadet 2ICs. Cadets will receive training in the ex*****on and delivery of orders and will be capable of commanding a section of cadets in fieldcraft situations.

Cadets applying must meet both of the following criteria:
- Completed L98A2 Initial Weapons Training (WHTs can be provided).
- Completed and passed the Silver Fieldcraft Training and Assessment Package.

Cadets wishing to apply for a place on the Gold Fieldcraft Course should submit applications no later than 30 June, using the link in Cadet Portal.

Weekend Round-up
It’s been a busy weekend for Oakley cadets competing in athletics and taking part in road marching.

Wing Athletics Championship
Where do we start, what a fantastic day with a brilliant group of cadets representing the squadron and what a great time they had. We are proud to announce we came 4th overall out of 25 squadrons, and we did this without a full team! Our Senior Girls came 2nd overall. An amazing result and fantastic team spirit shown.
Congratulations to all our medal winners: Cdt Sgt Woodcock, Cdt Hand-Pugh, Cdt Threlfall, Cdt Fabusuyi, Senior and Junior girls relay teams.

Road Marching
Over at RAF Cosford Cdt Sgt Handscombe was with Beds and Cambs Road Marching team taking part in RAF Warma which is a two-day event with teams marching 40km each day, not for the faint hearted!! Achieving his Silver Road marching badge and the RAF Warma medal for road marching, Cdt Sgt Handscombe was also presented with the Team Award for being the most supportive and encouraging cadet helping get all the team over the finish line.

As a squadron we are very proud of all our cadets and their efforts in these events.

🎖️ Calling Our Local Community for Support! 🇬🇧

As your local RAF Air Cadets squadron, we’re incredibly proud to represent our community at events and open days throughout the year. These occasions give us the opportunity to showcase what our amazing cadets achieve — from aviation training and leadership to Duke of Edinburgh and community service.

We’re currently looking for good quality display boards that we can use at events to present photos, information and achievements. If you or your organisation have any in good condition that you’d be willing to donate, we would be extremely grateful.

Alternatively, if any local businesses would be interested in sponsoring the purchase of new display boards, we’d be delighted to acknowledge your support at events and on our social media platforms. It’s a fantastic way to support local young people while gaining positive visibility in the community.

INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY EVENT

Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing are proud to host a special event in recognition of International Women’s Day 2026.
This inspiring day will feature TED‑style talks, interactive workshops and engaging stalls led by VIP guests representing a diverse range of careers and backgrounds. Cadets will have the rare opportunity to gain meaningful insight into the achievements, experiences, and challenges shared by these accomplished professionals.
The aim of the event is to motivate, empower, and inspire the next generation of leaders by showcasing real‑world pathways, personal stories, and the limitless potential available to them.
