Our social afternoon is the third Tuesday of the month, we meet to knit and natter EVERY Thursday 2.00 -4.00pm. Barry WI
We welcome women who want to share in the enjoyment of WI, women who want to join WI and are open to anyone living as a woman. We are one of one hundred WI’s in the Glamorgan Federation. Our Federation supports, helps and guides us in order that we function within the WI Consti
tution and the Charity Commission's Rules and Regulations. They in turn are supported by the National Federation which brings together all WI’s in England and Wales. Our meeting place is Highlight Park Community Centre, Stirling Road
We hold two meetings a month, our formal meeting is on the first Tuesday at 2pm during the winter and 7pm in the summer, our informal meeting is held on the third Tuesday of the month at 2.00pm. Our formal meeting as a whole group involves dealing with the “business” of the meeting - that is announcing what activities we are undertaking, planned events, visits, trips etc. followed by a talk or demonstration by a guest speaker or alternatively some in house activity towards a fund raising project or group activity. Short outline of a meeting:-
> When you arrive around ten minutes early, you register with the ladies at the desk.
> There is a chance to speak to any ladies/committee members, find out/put your name down for any planned events (days out, meals, theatre shows etc, some as Barry WI, some may be at/with other local Wi’s or the Glamorgan Federation)
> Yes the Jerusalem part is true! .. we sing this before our meeting, the music is played and we will make sure you have the words printed when you join!
> Announcements are made and our secretary updates us as to what is happening, when and where.
> Arranged Speaker/Event takes place, this varies from a Talk on scams, Puppeteer Demonstration, Tenovus choir, Ty Hafan fashion show and sale, fish and chip supper .. these are just some examples
> Time for a cuppa, biscuit (we all prepare and serve the refreshments on a rota basis) and a natter and another look/book for things of interest. On the third Tuesday of the month we have a social meeting and activities vary from;- talks, curling, skittles, quizzes, craft and so on. Every Thursday 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm is Knit and Natter, you can bring your own project, but there's usually something going on for a good cause if you'd like to get involved and help out. Outside of our monthly meetings various interesting educational talks, walks, events and trips are planned and organised, usually at a very reasonable price, friends and family are welcome to join us on the social trips. If you are interested in joining, you are welcome to come along without any fee to three meetings before deciding if it's for you and becoming a member. To become a member is £46 a year, payable in March (calculated pro rata if you join part way through the year), as a member you will also receive the National WI Life magazine via the post monthly. If you think the WI is something you’d like to be part of please let us have your details and we will contact you to talk a little more about what we are and what we do. Please message via this page with your name and telephone number and we hope we will be able to welcome you along soon!
