A huge thank you to the staff and pupils at Stanwell School for their recent donation to Vale Domestic Abuse Services.

Their student-led charity committee recently held a non-school uniform day and raised over £1,200. The pupils decided to donate to Vale Domestic Abuse Services to support survivors and their children in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Diolch yn fawr to all at Stanwell School!

We are delighted that the group of women from our Survivor Network have been nominated at the Bro Radio Community Awards.

Their inspiring and powerful photography exhibition, depicting the realities and lesser-told stories of life after abuse, was shown in Art Central Gallery, Cowbridge Old Hall and even in the Senedd, viewed by hundreds of people including First Minister, Rhun ap Iorwerth.

Here, Thrive Support Worker, Natalie, who assisted the group in this project, talks about what makes this piece of work so special and important…

🏳️‍🌈 This Pride Month, we're sharing Maddie's story.

For many LGBTQ+ survivors, abuse can be difficult to recognise, and even harder to talk about.

It can be emotional withdrawal. Isolation from friends and community. Control disguised as care. Threats to ‘out’ someone. Manipulation that slowly erodes confidence and self-worth.

Research suggests that between 25% and 40% of LGBTQ+ people will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. Yet many survivors do not seek support because they fear they won't be believed, don't recognise what they're experiencing as abuse, or don't know that support is available to them.

Maddie's story is a reminder that abuse can happen in any relationship, regardless of gender or sexuality.

This Pride Month, we want every LGBTQ+ person in our community to know:
💜 We see you.
💜 We believe you.
💜 You deserve safety.
💜 Support is available.

If something in Maddie's story feels familiar, you are not alone. Whether the abuse is physical, emotional, sexual, financial or controlling, help is available and you deserve to access it without judgement.

💜 NATIONAL VOLUNTEERS WEEK 2026 1st–7th June

This National Volunteers Week, we want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to every volunteer who has helped make our work possible at Vale Domestic Abuse Services.

Charities like ours simply could not deliver the support we do without the time, compassion and skills that volunteers bring.

For the past three years, Janet Powers has volunteered alongside our team, helping to facilitate our therapeutic group work programmes for women affected by domestic abuse.

Janet says: “I feel grateful and privileged to be a volunteer with ValeDAS, who help so many women to move on from abusive relationships.”

Through safe, supportive group sessions, Janet helps women rebuild confidence, understand abuse, recognise red flags and feel less alone in their experiences.

Her story is a powerful reminder that volunteering changes lives — not only for the people receiving support, but for the volunteers themselves.

Whether offering professional skills, lived experience, practical help or simply time and compassion, every volunteer makes a difference.

A HUGE congratulations to Mike Parry for completing the Edinburgh Marathon this weekend, whilst raising vital funds and awareness for Vale Domestic Abuse Services.

On one of the hottest days of the year, Mike completed the marathon in 4hrs09mins! And his incredible efforts have raised a staggering £715 to support survivors in the Vale. Having ran the Cardiff Half for Vale DAS last year, Mike has raised over £1,000 in total for our charity.

Mike said: “It was an incredibly hot day! The scenery and atmosphere was stunning though - starting in the centre, past the castle then out to the coast by the beach and back.

Support was incredible along the whole route, music, signs, people spraying garden hoses and even a beer stand!

It felt amazing knowing we’d smashed the donation target, so there was no way I wasn’t finishing, it was the least I could do given everyone’s generosity and the help I know it will provide.”

We are so grateful to Mike for his continued commitment and dedication to supporting survivors in the Vale. We simply can’t do what we do without the support of incredible people like Mike. Diolch, Mike!
