Last week our Tŷ Hapus activities had a focus on the Autumn harvest.
Every year we enjoy visiting St John’s church on Barry Island to see their harvest displays and the wonderful work the children have done to decorate the church.
This year Carole gave us a tour and a fabulous history of the church and its important role as a hospital during World War One. She also gave us some history of our Tŷ Hapus bungalow.
The guests were so interested and some couldn’t stop talking about it on return to Tŷ Hapus x

Time flies when you are having fun!
I can’t believe it’s been over a week since we joined the dementia awareness walk organised by Barry Blue.
We opened the Tŷ Hapus doors to the public and gave people a chance to find out what we do.
The sun came out and it was a gorgeous day.
The Mayor joined us and said a few words.
Paul Ogden led the walk and he stopped at points of interest to tell us all some Barry history.
was our destination for some lovely food and drinks and chat.

On Friday 11th September Asda Barry gave us a chance to promote Tŷ Hapus CIO Dementia Support and at the same time do some fundraising.
Lots of customers gave to our bucket collectors and some used our JustGiving QR code too. To everyone who did THANK YOU 🙏
Organised by our fabulous fundraising volunteer Sue Cummings
we also had a team of volunteer collectors…Linda and Heather , Helen Bond , Helen Davies and Katrina Cooke. Thank you for your time and effort.

This Saturday is the rescheduled Dementia Awareness Walk organised by Turning Barry Blue.
It's starting from Tŷ Hapus so people can pop in and say 'Hello' and find out a bit more about what we do.

Unfortunately the forecast for this Saturday morning is rain and strong winds. The decision has been made to postpone the walk until Saturday 26th September . Same place same time.

At Tŷ Hapus we love to focus on our guests strengths. One of our lovely ladies really enjoys reciting her favourite poems.
On Thursday we used this and had a words and lyrics day.
We started with a great finish the lyrics game with some joyful singing 🎶
Then we enjoyed some creativity around WH Davies’s poem ‘Leisure’ and learnt about this Newport poet.
After a sociable lunch we had a very competitive game of blockbusters.
We then drew Augusts raffle and the winner was there which is always nice. X

On Wednesday we had a games and games shows day at Tŷ Hapus.
Lots of chat about games from our childhood and spending hours out and about on our bikes.
Gameshow chat and listening to the theme tunes, then a bar skittles tournament followed by animal bingo.
After lunch we had a gameshow slideshow quiz too.

As part of World Alzheimer’s Month there is a Dementia awareness walk on Saturday 19th September. Organised by Turning Barry Blue and the Dementia Friendly Barry Community, it’s starting at the Tŷ Hapus bungalow, so there’s a chance to pop in and have a look around and ask any questions. The walk then heads down to Marcos Cafe Barry Island.
