🌈🌿 Appledore Pride β€” nature, creativity and community

Thank you to everyone who visited the Biosphere Communities Hub at Appledore Pride β€” and took part in Martha's Hapa Zome (leaf‑printing) activity.

Using natural materials to create prints, it was a simple, hands‑on way to connect with plants and patterns in nature β€” and proved a real highlight of the day.

Alongside this, there were some great conversations about wildlife‑friendly gardening, from hedgehog habitats to small changes people can make at home.

Despite a venue change, the event brought together a wide mix of families, young people and adults β€” with space to chat, share ideas and meet others who care about nature and place.

The just behind us, it's a good time to remind everyone that the Devon Local Nature Recovery Strategy is live!

Devon's nature is amazing. We can't live without it. Nature gives us food, cleans our water and brings us joy. But nature is in crisis. We need to act now!

The LNRS is a single vision for nature across Devon setting out actions everyone can take to help nature recover.
How you can help:
- Explore the strategy
- Help nature by supporting the LNRS
- Add what you're doing to the delivery map

🌍 Today is World Environment Day β€” and there's good news for North Devon.

Last month, Devon County Council backed a new long-term plan to support the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere β€” helping nature thrive, strengthening communities, and creating a more sustainable future for our area.

Over the past year, people across northern Devon have helped shape a new 10-year strategy.

It's about working together β€” and making a real difference where we live.

πŸŽ‰ We'll be sharing the full strategy very soon.

🌿 Huntacott River Ramble β€” a day of connection and discovery

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday for the Huntacott River Ramble.

People came from across North Devon β€” and further afield β€” to spend an afternoon walking the river, sharing knowledge and exploring what's happening across the catchment.

Along the route, we stopped to hear about:
πŸ’§ river health and water quality
🌧 natural flood management (including leaky dams and ponds)
🐟 fish habitats and spawning
🌱 farming, wildlife and land use

With input from the North Devon Biosphere and Westcountry Rivers Trust, and contributions from those taking part, the walk became a real shared learning experience.

As one participant put it:
"The beautiful surroundings and really informative talking β€” I learnt a lot."

This is what is all about β€” bringing people together to understand the places they care about, and what it takes to look after them.
