Supporting bereaved children, young people, and their
families across Northern Devon. Building grief-informed communities that know how to support one another.

Our Aims :

To provide high quality bereavement support to all grieving families in need of our help. To better educate and support professionals who come into contact with bereaved children and young people. To improve family relationships after someone died, to reduce isolation, to improve a child or young person's engagement with school. To ensure families and professionals are aware of FiG's services. We will do this via phone and video calls, home visits, providing resources and through support groups . We also coach, support and train professionals including school staff.

It's so wonderful to see how much our Bereavement Cafes have blossomed over the past six months, providing a much-needed space for bereaved families to connect with one another and chat with members of the FiG team.

As well as copious amounts of complimentary tea, coffee, and cake, we also offer a range of activities such as children's crafts and, in some venues, wellbeing activities for adult family members. Here are some pics from our last South Molton session, which included a wander around the gorgeous autumnal garden at Quince Honey Farm.

Our next Bereavement Cafe will take place at Bideford Library on Saturday 7th November from 10am - 12.30pm. If you'd like to attend please contact [email protected].

We've finally finished dotting the i's and crossing the t's behind the scenes, and we're delighted to announce that this year's Barney to Beach raised an incredible £7,843 for Families in Grief! 💜

This past year has seen some really exciting developments at FiG, with new staff members, new support services launching, and a growing FiG community working hard behind the scenes. If you want to find out more about the work we’ve been doing and what we’ve got planned for the future, we’d like to invite you to attend our 2026 AGM on Wednesday 11th November.

Starting at 10am, the event will be held online and will be open to all. You will hear from our CEO and other stakeholders, with an opportunity to ask questions and have your say. If you’d like to attend, please contact [email protected] for a link to join.

Great news! We have secured more dates in 2027 for our Bereavement Cafe at Quince Honey Farm in South Molton.

Launched in the summer, this is the second location for our popular Cafes, with a third set to open in Bideford next month. These sessions provide a relaxed and informal space where bereaved families can connect with each other, chat with members of the FiG team, and enjoy plenty of lovely tea and cake free of charge.

Coming soon... a new programme of art workshops in a brand new location!

This time, we'll be based at the wonderful Magpie and Hook in Bideford.

These sessions are designed to help bereaved children and young people feel less alone in their grief, giving them an opportunity to connect with others while creating beautiful artworks to remember and celebrate those they love. Led by local artists, these workshops will culminate in a private view and public exhibition of the artworks created.

We are looking to grow our team of garden volunteers!

Over the past six months our volunteers have created a beautiful space outside our Castle Lodge home in the heart of Barnstaple, transforming an overgrown and derelict garden into a haven for nature and plants known for their healing and restorative properties.

Now we're looking for another person to join our team. Could you spare a few hours every week or every other week to help us in our beautiful garden? No experience is necessary, and you will be helping maintain a welcoming space for the families that we support.

Last night, MPs in the House of Commons held a debate to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week. Our thanks to Ian Roome MP for speaking passionately about the impact of baby loss and the need for the right bereavement support. We were honoured to be mentioned alongside the other wonderful organisations working to support bereaved families across the country.
