Sunrise Diversity is a charity dedicated to creating community cohesion and ending discrimination. Would you like to get in touch with us?

We offer a wide range of services, activities, events and training designed for everyone in North Devon. Sunrise is a community support organisation who aim to celebrate diversity, challenge discrimination, and change attitudes. Primarily focusing on the needs of people from diverse communities including migrants, refugee and asylum seekers, people of colour, and the LGBTQIA+ community. Sunrise was first established in October 2009 as a social group for refugees, migrant workers and asylum seekers; however it soon became apparent that users were facing a range of issues and difficulties which were not being addressed by local service providers. In response, we started supporting users and runs a range of services and activities to cater for the needs of diverse people. Services for diverse individuals are free of cost and include English language classes, groups, and conversation clubs, 1-1 support, guidance and advice. We organize events in Northern Devon that celebrate diversity in the wider community. We also can provide training and workshops to groups, organizations, and businesses. Stop Hate Week 2026 is 10-17 October, and we want to talk about how we can help if you are a victim of hate.

Anyone can be a victim of hate and it's important that we seek support from friends, family and organisations if that happens. We have launched a new webpage called 'Report Hate' which can signpost you to where you can report hate, but also where you can seek support.

We are keen to stop hate in North Devon and beyond, and we will never tolerate hate in our spaces, whether online or in person.

💬 You told us and we listened.👂️

You told us that the times we were holding the LGBTQmunity Socials didn't work great for many people. So we listened and we changed it! Our LGBTQmunity Socials will now be held every other week on Saturdays from 11am-1pm at Young Devon in Barnstaple!🌈

📆 The first one will be on 17th October and tickets are now live for all of the dates until April!

🍰 We will still be having cake and hot drinks and craft activities, and you are invited to bring your own craft activities and friends with you!☕️

📚️ Tonight is our monthly LGBTQ+ Book Club at Tipsy Books! Come down to meet some amazing LGBTQ+ people, and chat about books! There's no pressure to read a certain amount each month, or to read the same book, just come on down to discuss books with other q***r people!🌈

📆 The LGBTQ+ Book Club meets the first Wednesday of every month from 7-9pm.

🫵 We want you! We are looking to have more volunteers join our fantastic team!🫂

🤝 If you love helping to bring communities together, or getting involved with running events - we definitely want to hear from you! We are starting to run more events and community groups, and we would love to have some more volunteers to help these be as great as possible!

🖊️ 💻️ If you have other skills, maybe in admin, or PR, or education, or fundraising (almost anything really!), we still definitely want to hear from you! We are a small charity with only 8 part time staff members, and we couldn't do the work we do without our amazing group of volunteers.

🥳 We are excited to announce our new donation platform! We support many different people in our community, helping to make North Devon a more inclusive place. At the moment, we are entirely funded by grants and National Lottery funding, which is just enough to keep our charity going.

💸 Your donations can help us buy more resources for our English classes and our community events, they can help us provide translation services to people who need them that come to us, they can even help pay for venue costs for our community groups and events.
