This Carers Week, I want to recognise the incredible dedication, strength and love shown by unpaid carers every single day.

Do you sing, play an instrument, entertain, or simply love bringing joy to others? The Muni Theatre are looking for local performers to audition for our monthly Melodies & Memories sessions. These are uplifting music, dancing and community events designed especially for people who may feel socially isolated or just enjoy the company of others.

A poem by M.Holt 💙

I started supporting Michael and his wife Carole not long after setting up my business back in 2022.

It has been an absolute privilege to be part of their dementia journey — sharing some truly special moments along the way, alongside some of the more difficult and life-changing ones that dementia can bring.

One of the memories I will cherish forever was supporting Carole to enjoy a holiday of a lifetime — a Norwegian Fjords cruise filled with laughter, happiness and precious moments that Michael and I will never forget.

More recently, I have also supported Michael through one of the hardest transitions a family can face, as Carole moved into permanent residential care.
This beautiful poem, written by Michael, reflects on 35 wonderful years spent together in their family home, the love they have shared throughout 45 years of marriage, and the journey they have faced together through dementia.

Thank you, Michael, for allowing me to share such a personal and heartfelt part of your story. 💙

Making small changes at home can help people living with dementia stay independent and feel more comfortable.
Here are simple tips to create a dementia-friendly home.👇

📖Reduce clutter – too many items can confuse. Keep only what’s needed and use visual clues.

💡Improve lighting – bright, even light in kitchens, bathrooms and dining areas helps people see better and feel safe.

🍽️Use contrast – choose colours that stand out for important things like cups, plates, and handrails.

📺Cut down noise – turn off TVs and radios when talking, and find quiet spaces to reduce stress.
