A fantastic game for our Reserves yesterday as they ran out 8–1 winners against Axbridge in a dominant performance from start to finish.
Manager Dan Elmer said
"From the first whistle the we showed the right attitude, pressing high and moving the ball well, which allowed us to get on the front foot early. The opening goal settled the nerves and from there the you boys really started to find your rhythm, creating chances and playing some excellent football.
We went into the break with a comfortable lead after some well worked goals and a strong attacking display. Credit to you all for keeping your focus and intensity high, as we continued to push in the second half rather than taking your foot off the gas.
Jack Derrick was the standout performer on the day, earning Man of the Match after an outstanding display in front of goal. His movement, composure and finishing were excellent as he helped himself to four goals, showing real quality and confidence throughout the game.
But it was very much a full team performance. The midfield worked tirelessly to control the game, the defence and keeper stayed organised and dealt well with the moments they were tested, and the squad as a whole showed great togetherness and work rate.
To come away with an 8–1 win is always pleasing, but more importantly it was the way that you approached the game with discipline, energy and the right mentality. We go again next week.
