Nigel Oxley is widely recognised for his collaborations with significant artists. His retrospective exhibition at Seacourt Print Workshop โ€˜Into the Lightโ€™ shifts attention to his own practice as an artist-printmaker, tracing a body of work that extends from the early 1970s to the present.โฃ
โฃ
After graduating from Camberwell School of Art and Crafts in 1971, Nigel Oxley joined White Ink Studio in London, working with Dame Elisabeth Frink, Victor Pasmore, Eduardo Paolozzi and Richard Smith.โฃ
โฃ
In 1978 he moved to the renowned Kelpra Studio, where, as Master Printer and Etcher, he became known for complex multi-plate colour etchings for artists including John Piper, Patrick Heron, Jim Dine and Bernard Cohen.โฃ
โฃ
Nigel later established his own etching studio and taught life drawing and printmaking at the City of London Polytechnic, later London Metropolitan University, where he became a senior lecturer. He left in 2012 to focus on his own practice.โฃ
โฃ
His book Colour Etching, published by A. & C. Black in 2007, is a practical reference on etching, aquatint, carborundum and polymer plate techniques.โฃ
โฃ
In 2012 Nigel Oxley and John Akutsa Read co-founded Prism Print International. In 2025, its artist members gifted the organisationโ€™s archive to the Ulster Museum in Belfast, securing a lasting record of innovation, collaboration and international exchange.โฃ
โฃ
Nigelโ€™s work continues to make an important contribution to the history and future of post-war printmaking. We are very grateful he has chosen to show this important retrospective exhibition at Seacourt Print Workshop.โฃ
